Business Office Services: overview Goals of the Team: – To assist Principal Investigators affiliated with Calit 2 with their sponsored research projects. – Our focus is to deliver quality service for sponsored projects with the full suite of pre and post-award services.
Business Office Services: pre-award – Generation of budget and assistance with budget justification – Facilitate the collection of CVs, current & pending, conflict of interest and other non-budget portions – Liaison between PI, other partners (UCSD or non. UCSD) and OCGA – Successful submittal of the proposal
Business Office Services: post-award – Financial reports; discuss current status and plan for future with project managers – Request for re-budgeting, no cost extension, continuation/renewal application – Prepare & coordinate special/required financial reports to sponsored agency, cost share reporting – Liaison between PI/Project manager and UCSD central offices; Purchasing, Payroll and Travel

Project Management & Support Goals of the Group: – Facilitation and support of major technology programs – Development of future partnerships by supporting the initiation and development of large scale initiatives involving academia, industry, government, private foundations and organizations.
Project Management & Support • Support is provided on a project-by-project basis and may include any or all of the following: – – – liaison between researchers, faculty and industry partners fund raising & public relations coordinating proposals & program planning directing the arrangements for special events coordinating space and equipment support for project meetings & integrated presentations manage complex travel and meeting calendars for project participants coordinate and execute arrangements for meetings, seminars and conferences Organize and produce project reports troubleshoot and independently resolve assorted operational problems act as a liaison for the Program Director and PIs with vendors, campus units, public and private agencies, national and international colleagues, and publishing houses. • A recharge is being considered as a method to allocate the costs of the services
Research and Technical Professionals • Calit 2 has established a Research and Technical Professionals group possessing a wide range of research and technical skills • Support is provided on a project-by-project basis • A recharge is being considered for this group or could be direct charged.

Calit 2 Facility Services provides and coordinates building support which include the following: • building access control (key and building access card management) • building modifications and alterations; review and implementation • maintenance repair of building and grounds • occupant move in or move out; planning and implementing • security & safety coordination with EH&S and occupants for instruction • property asset management for Calit 2 owned assets • custodial services; cleaning, trash and recyclables, vacuuming, etc. • storage coordination; bring only what you need, no extra storage space.
Calit 2 Building Security and Access • Swipe/ID cards will be used to access the electronic building locks (P-2000 card access control system by Johnson Controls. These are allocated by UCSD as “Employee Identification Cards. ” They are also known as “Triton Plus Cards. ” • Your Campus Employee ID Card is the equivalent of a key for entrance into the building after normal hours of operation. It is for the sole use of the holder and is NOT TRANSFERABLE.
Building Modifications and Alterations : Calit 2 Facility Services assists and coordinates building modifications and alterations; these services are as follows: – – Formulate and review plans for development Analyze development options, appraisal and asset analysis Identify scope of project and set priorities Maintain and monitor physical development of projects

IT Facilities and Services Overview • General community AV facilities and services – Conference and meeting room spaces – Digital Cinema 200 seat theater – Building AV services to support them • Specialized research facilities – The Multipurpose Room (a. k. a. Black Box) – The Immersive Visualization Room (CAVE) – Other Visualization spaces – Server and telecom collocation spaces • Anticipated computing, communications and networking services – Anticipated because some details are in the planning stage – Base level services and core facility access are available to all residents – More specialized services are based on recharge or lease models
Anticipated AV and Visualization resources and services • General building base level AV services – AV support is available for various building collaboration functions – General Conference room presentations – Smart Conference room teleconferencing – Theater presentations – Routine setup instructions are available – More comprehensive support will be available via recharge • Custom conferencing and visualization services – Provided on a recharge basis – On-site support available for conferences and demonstrations – Custom setup, operations and demonstrations available for the – – Multipurpose room (Black Box) Theater (HD Cinema) Immersive Visualization Room (CAVE) Other specialized visualization capabilities
Conference and meeting rooms • A variety of conference and meeting rooms are available – Range of sizes and capacities (146 – 521 sq ft) – Distributed throughout the building – Contain a variety of presentation and collaboration capabilities – General and special purpose (e. g. “Smart” spaces) • Schedulable on-line or by drop in – Web interface for online scheduling and status – Touchpad display status and scheduling planned for some rooms – Drop in public meeting alcoves also available on all upper floors • Technical support is available as described earlier – Basic instruction available for all – More comprehensive assistance available via recharge
Tele-cinema Theater • Theater provides seating for 200 – Available for direct scheduling to building occupants – External and large events coordinated by Calit 2 administration – Supports multiple presentation, performance and projection capabilities – Automated via touch panel systems controlling AV, screen and lighting – A usage (e. g. cleanup) fee may apply • Specific capabilities include – State-of-the-Art Digital Cinema – Dolby and DTS digital surround systems – Speech reinforcement and ADA hearing assistance – HD stereo projection/display – anticipate experimental 4 K technologies – Dual high light projectors (7700 lumen or better, 1600 x 1200 or better) – “Smart” speakers lectern with AV controls and presentation capabilities – Theatrical light fixtures.
Specialized Research Facilities • Multipurpose room (2000 sq ft multi-level “Black Box”) with – A movable riser system for reconfigurable audience arrangements – ‘Attachable' floor system provides flexible power and data connectivity – Special flooring supports 'high impact events’ such as dance – A lighting control system w/theatrical fixtures. • The Immersive Visualization Lab (a. k. a. CAVE) – Supports research in multi-screen, multi-user Virtual Reality environments – 6 wall next generation stereo CAVE is under design – Wireless user tracking and surround sound will be available • Anticipated capabilities of other visualization spaces -- examples – 4 th floor visualization space supports – Stereo Immersive visualization – Tiled display wall – Multipoint collaboration over HD – 6 th floor smart conferencing space – Multi-site collaboration – Smart conferencing and displays – Electronic mark up and transmission

E drops) to all locations – Supports 10 Gig. E building backbone and wide area connectivity – Wi. Fi throughout supporting 802. 11 a/b/g – Wi. Fi “blanket” coverage in Theater and Black Box Building research network facilities support includes – Flexible conduit, cable trays and drops for custom cabling – Substantial IT closet fiber interconnects for inter-lab distribution – Collocation space for research project electronics Building connectivity to production and research networks – UCSD 10 Gig. E high performance backbone (soon to include all of Engineering) – Access to Cal. REN-HPR State-wide network at 10 Gig. E Building telephony services – Campus Digital systems available for production services – Campus VOIP systems available as well for experiments, but they do not support – E 911 services – Services after a power failure – Some VOIP Wi.
