ICP budget request • ICP budget: – Consolidation and safety measures covered by CERN – Beam quality improvements covered by ISOLDE collaboration • Instrumentation and Power pre-studies only started after the start of the ICP – Director of accelerators warned that an additional budget request would come for PO and BD Mats Lindroos
PO and BD pre-studies • PO study efficiently run in a very positive “spirit” • PO-CO collaboration on controls • Spares for ISOLDE • New configurations for powers supplies on high voltage platforms • Refurbishment of off-line separator and pump stands • BD study equally efficiently run • New standards for faraday cups • Spare for ISOLDE instrumentation • PO-BD collaboration on controls Mats Lindroos

Consequences • If not granted: – The existing ISOLDE control system can not be phased out for instrumentation – We risk taking stops in the run due to lack of spares – Possible hold ups in target production due to the old and failing power supplies at the off-line facilities – No full PO and CO piquet cover of ISOLDE Mats Lindroos
Proposal • Request an additional year of ICP with a budget of 800 k. CHF – Use the delay caused by the slow process for advancing with new buildings at CERN to buffer – Phase in new equipment over the two coming years – Buy in bulk to optimize the price Mats Lindroos
