Buckinghamshire County Council “How to”: Proof of right to work document checks (“A&I”) Step 1 = Obtain • Your prospective employee must present original versions of one or more documents from the acceptable documents list. Only accept original documents. Step 2 = Check • Check documents are genuine. • Check any photographs are consistent with the appearance of the person. • Check Do. B is consistent across documents and corresponds with the appearance of the person. • Check any document with a UK visa that it enables the person to do the type of work. • Check that any visa (leave to remain) expiry date has not passed. • Check that any visa stamp/sticker is in a current passport. Step 3 = Copy • Make a clear copy of each document. Sign (print) and date all copies taken “right to work check originals seen: [insert date]”. • NB: The person’s name on the records MUST match the provided ID (additional paperwork may be needed ie marriage certificate)
