London is not the political, financial and manufacturing centre of Great Britain. It is the main tourist attraction of the country, too. There are many places of interest in London. Thousands of tourists visit it every year. Tourists usually want to see Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul’ Cathedral, the Tower of London.

Today I’d like to tell you about Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace was built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham. In 1761 King George III bought this palace for his wife. And since the 19th century Buckingham Palace is the official residence of Sovereign.

Today Elizabeth II is the Queen of London. When the Queen is in the palace, the royal flag flutters over it.

Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms. There are a throne room, a ballroom, a dining room, picture gallery and a swimming pool.

Some of its rooms you can visit in summertime, when the Queen is not at home. One of the most interesting parts of the palace is the Queen’s Gallery, where you can see works of art of the royal collection. It’s not free. It costs about £20.

Royal garden and stables are also interesting sights. Every year more than 50 000 guests visit garden parties and banquets.

Many tourists come here to see the ceremony of the Changing of the Guard. Every day at 11 am Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place.
