Global Workforce Project “Internationalization is not a goal in itself, but a way to enhance the quality of education and research and their contribution to society – Hans De. Witt The Global Workforce Project (GWP) is a comprehensive program, that internationalizes teaching and learning. The GWP was created in 2009 with funds given by the U. S. Department of Education’s Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language Program grant. The GWP energizes faculty, encourages innovative pedagogy and delivers interactive classroom activities that engage students. The GWP provides students with knowledge of key globalization trends and global workforce skills, including holistic thinking and cross-cultural communications The GWP assesses global learning outcomes across the undergraduate general education curriculum

Globalization Curriculum Provides an international context for the teaching of global skills: Holistic Thinking: An awareness of the system and the interdependence of its parts, and an ability to understand phenomena from multiple, equally valid perspectives.
Globalization Curriculum Cross-cultural communications: An awareness that “differences” (cultural, social, linguistic, economic, historical, genderbased, etc. ) matter in interaction, demonstrated through appropriately shaping one’s discourse with individuals of “different” backgrounds
Globalization Curriculum Technology Skills: effectively using technologies that cross the economic and geographic divide. Our project aims to help students become familiar with tools in a professional context.

Curriculum Reaches Diverse General Education Courses Curriculum was written by content experts, reviewed by a panel of International Studies experts, piloted and adapted by 25 faculty across multiple disciplines, taught in 49 courses reaching 1800 students, and polished by a Professor of Education. Professional Development Program Online Training in Holistic Thinking Developed by Education Professor and GWP Assessment Director, Dr. Jeremy Browne Exercises that improve pedagogy by devising assignments that require students to think holistically
Professional Development Program Online Cross-cultural communications course Developed by Dr. Bidhan Chandra, Cross-Cultural Specialist and Professor at Empire State College Faculty learn how to improve pedagogy and to help students become more sensitive cultural differences
Professional Development Program Online Technology Training Developed by SUNY Ulster Instructional Designer Hope Windle Training explores how to use technology to accomplish the following: Finding different POVs, Crossing cultures, Communicating, Sharing, Flipping, Saving In-Person Professional Development Workshops will be offered for groups (schools, consortiums, etc. ) interested in creating GWP cohorts.
Next Steps: Global Learning Communities International Experiential Learning Community: developing a Cross-Cultural Evaluation Toolkit to report on the crosscultural impact of curricular internationalization initiatives. This community just received a 2013 SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grant. Only 33 out of 93 proposals were funded, including 6 renewal grants. Curricular Innovation Community: exploring the creation of a Council to promote best practices for curricular internationalization. A new K-12 Pipeline Community is planned for Fall 2013. SUNY Global Scholars Certificate Program: a new certificate program under development, to be piloted at Binghamton University, Nassau Community College, SUNY Farmingdale, and SUNY Old Westbury.
Global Workforce Project GWP’s Globalization Curriculum is available online: www. suny. edu/globalskills GWP’s Training Program: Online portion will be ready soon for piloting. Revised version will be ready Fall 2013. We are available to bring the GWP Program to interested colleges and universities. We can: help create the infrastructure needed to embed the program lead customized faculty development programs carry-out an in-depth program assessment and train faculty to use new and existing assessment tools connect interested faculty to like-minded peer in learning communities
