Snowmass overview The post-Snowmass ILC BCD looks like this: BCD Executive - BB, GD, BF, FT, TR, NW, KY - meeting to prepare remaining decisions by the end of the year. 6 Brian Foster - 9 th ICATPP

Brussels meeting Last month E. Elsen & I visited the Commission in Brussels to discuss ILC status and future plans. We met S. Fontana & H. Perot. Wide-ranging discussion. Llot of emphasis placed on educating European public on benefits of financing ILC. Clearly Perot et al concerned by likely reduction in resources available for FP 7. 8 Brian Foster - 9 th ICATPP
Brussels meeting They were keen to build the ILC in Slovenia. The point is to access EU structural funds to supplement FP 7. Perhaps Poland, or German regions qualifying for structural funds would be more realistic possibility. Keen to help with translation costs and to pay up to 50% of cost of ILC preparatory stage. ESFRI report @ end 2006 basis of FP 7 on big facilities. ILC FP 7 should concentrate on serious prototyping. Need something written for ESFRI by Feb. 2006. Brian Foster - 9 th ICATPP 9
Future meetings There will be a teleconference later this week called by the ECFA chair to discuss how best to organise a coherent pp input to the commission for projects that need FP 7 funding. Our strategy of coherent input steered by ECFA was successful in FP 6. We should try as hard as possible to agree a similar strategy for FP 7. Such a strategy must recognise the position of ILC as the first priority new project for pp. 10 Brian Foster - 9 th ICATPP
Future meetings The Frascati meeting December 7 - 9 will follow the TTC meeting and will begin with a plenary session in which the status of the BCD will be described and the remaining issues that need to be settled in Frascati will be highlighted. The aim is to leave the plenary presentation on Friday evening with an essentially complete BCD that can be documented by the end of the year or very early in 2006. 11 Brian Foster - 9 th ICATPP
Future meetings 3 rd European Conference on Research Infrastructures will be held in Nottingham, UK 6 -7 December 2005. Presentations from R. Orbach (DOE) and M. Nemoto (MEXT) and others. Commissioner Potocnik will attend. ESFRI is well represented. Unfortunate clash with TTF @ Frascati. Plan is for E. Elsen to contribute to the parallel session “Towards large international infrastructures. ” BF hopes to attend. We should invite Paisini to Plenary GDE. 12 Brian Foster - 9 th ICATPP
Summary The GDE is formed and functioning. Missing positions such as the US costing engineer, someone to overview R&D etc will be filled imminently. The Baseline design for the ILC is well under way. Lots of real work is going on as well as the necessary organisation. EU is supportive & encouraging - we need to approach them with timely & coherent proposals. We still have some time to sort this out. 13 Brian Foster - 9 th ICATPP
