Born in the British aristocracy, Diana Frances Spencer, was the youngest daughter of John Spencer, 8 th Earl Spencer, and his first wife, Frances Spencer, Viscountess Althorp. She was born at Park House, Sandringham in Norfolk, England on 1 July 1961 at 6. 45 pm and was baptized at the St. Mary Magdalene Church by Rt. Reverend Percy Herbert.
Diana attended the Silfield School Kings Lynn, Norfolk, then and the Riddlesworth Hall in Norfolk and at West Heath Girls' School in Seven oaks, Kent. She was regarded as a poor student since she failed all of her O-levels twice. On February 24, 1981, Princess Diana was officially engaged to Prince Charles when he presented her with a £ 30, 000 ring, which consisted of 14 diamonds and a sapphire.
In July 29 th 1981, at 11: 20 A. M (BST), Princess Diana married Prince Charles at St Paul's Cathedral. The lavish wedding was aired on global television to be seen by an audience of 750 million. Diana’s wedding gown was worth £ 9000. In April 1987, the Princess of Wales helped to campaign for AIDS awareness when she was photographed touching a person infected with HIV at the 'chain of hope' organization.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were separated on 9 December 1992 and Princess Diana blamed Camilla Parker-Bowles for her marital troubles. It was on 3 rd December 1993 that Diana had announced her withdrawal from public life. It was in December 1995 that the Queen actually asked Charles and Diana for an early divorce and hence the divorce was finalized on 28 August 1996.
After their divorce Princess Diana retained her apartment in Kensington Palace, which remained her home until her death.
On 31 August 1997, Diana died in car crash in the Pont de l'Alma road tunnel in Paris. She was with Dodi Al-Fayed and the acting security manager of the Hotel Ritz Paris, Henri Paul.
Diana's funeral service was conducted in Westminster Abbey on 6 September 1997 and was attended by all members of the royal family. During the service, Elton John sang Candle In The Wind and changed the lyrics to start with Goodbye England's Rose, which moved everyone to tears.
Her burial occurred privately on the same day and was attended by the Prince of Wales, her sons, her mother, siblings, a close friend, and a clergyman. Diana’s remains had been dressed in a black long sleeved dress designed by Catherine Walker and a set of rosary beads had been placed in her hands (the beads were a gift from Mother Teresa). Diana’s grave is in the lake located within the grounds of the Althorp Park. Thirty-six oak trees, symbolizing each year of her life have been planted which lead to the lake in which her grave rests. Four black swans swim in the lake, guarding the island.
The Mysterious Death Of Princess Diana is known the world over not just for her royal connections but also for the humanitarian efforts that she made. The Princess of Wales died on August 31, 1997 in a car accident. It has been more than a decade that she passed away but her death continues to remain a mystery.
Her death was a result of a car accident that took place in Paris, France. The accident happened near Ponti De L'alma, which is a bridge over the river Seine, West of Paris. The car accident was a result of the princess being chased by the paparazzi.
Princess Diana's personal life was a subject of constant speculation. After the news of her broken marriage came out in the open, she was always hounded by the paparazzi. That night too she was being chased by some media persons. The driver speeded to get out of sight of the journalists which resulted in an accident.
After the accident, Diana was immediately rushed to La Pitie Salpetriere. The hospital is known the world over for the amenities it has to offer. Princess Diana had suffered serious injuries in the accident and even had her coronary artery ruptured.
Though all this appears to be just an accident, there are reports that indicate otherwise. It is believed that Princess Diana wrote a letter to her former butler Paul Burell stating that her life was in danger. She even write that the brakes of her car may be tampered with to cause an accident. This information was passed on to Diana by a member of the Royal family
There are several other doubts that spark her death as mysterious. For instance, the closed circuit cameras in the tunnel where the accident place could not record the event. The ambulance that took Diana to the hospital took a longer time to reach the hospital and stopped for 5 minutes just 600 yards before the hospital. All these factors have only strengthened the doubt that there was some conspiracy behind Princess Diana's death.
Even a decade after Princess Diana's death, no one really knows whether she died a natural death in an accident or whether she was killed. Whatever the reason may be, the Princess of Wales continues to live fondly in many a hearts even today.
