History
History Belfast was founded in 1609, when King James began the settlement of Ulster by English and Scottish settlers. Sir Arthur Chichester got possession of the land in Ulster, including Belfast Castle, which in 1611 was rebuilt. Around this castle, and appeared a small town. At the beginning of XVII century the population of Belfast was somewhere in 1000. Wool, leather, grain, oil and salt beef were exported to England, Scotland France. He was a chief figure in 20 th-Century theatre, a literary critic, socialist spokesman and one of the most popular public speakers of his time. He is, however, primarily famous for authoring over 50 plays. Colin Farrell (1976 -05 -31 - ) Colin Farrell was born in Castleknock, Dublin and has achieved the status of a rising Hollywood star. Music and sport Hockey is a major participatory sport in Belfast, for both men and women . Football The Northern Ireland national football team, currently ranked 33 rd in the FIFA World Rankings and 1 st in the FIFA rankings per capita, play their home matches in Windsor Park. Cricket Belfast boasts Ireland's premier cricket venue at Stormont, Belfast. The Ireland cricket team plays many of its home games at this venue, which, in 2006, also hosted the first ever one-day international(ODI) between Ireland England. In 2007, Ireland, India and South Africa played a triangular series of one-day internationals at Stormont, and in 2008 the qualifying tournament for the ICC World Twenty 20 was held there.
