Behavioral Competencies
• Competencies are the characteristics employers look for in their employees. Employers use documented competencies to help identify and communicate key attributes their organizations need to be more competitive and successful.
• When measuring employee performance, employers often review individual performance of the desired competencies associated with a position in a given time period. Those performance reviews help employees understand what they are doing well and areas for improvement. Competencies provide the framework of a position. What’s more, they enable a constructive conversation about what it takes to be successful.
• Besides using competencies to help evaluate employees, organizations use them in recruiting, determining compensation and making better decisions about training, promotions and assignments.
• A Competency Model is a group of related competencies used to describe successful performance. Employers choose the appropriate competencies to include in the model for each position.
• HRsoft offers an extensive Competency Library to help employers define the key attributes for particular positions. Some of them are general and suit any type of employer. Other competencies are related to specific industries, such as health care or financial services. By clicking on the links below, you will find a number of Behavioral Competencies that can be useful in defining the desired attributes of your positions.
