BALA LAKE
Bala is a market town whose history stretches back to at least the period of the Roman occupation of Wales. Bala is one of the major towns of Southern Snowdonia. In the 18 th century, the town was well known for the manufacture of flannel, stockings, gloves and hosiery.
T HE W ELSH L AKE D ISTRICT The Penllyn area, of which Bala is a part, is known as the Welsh Lake District due to its mountainous landscape, which is dotted with natural lakes. The largest natural lake in Wales is Llyn Tegid, or Bala Lake, one of Snowdonia's most popular spots for watersports.
T EGGIE It's not only Scottish lochs that harbour monsters. . . there's one in Bala Lake, too. Affectionately known as Teggie, the monster in Bala Lake is the Welsh equivalent of the Loch Ness Monster and is said to resemble a crocodile or plesiosaur
D ROWNED CITY There are several drowned city legends in this part of Wales, and one of the most famous of these is the story of the city that lies beneath Bala Lake. The story goes that the city was ruled by a nasty, selfish prince, who ruled over equally nasty, selfish subjects. The only survivor of the mass drowning was a gentle harpist, who was saved by the song of a bird who warned him just in time to make his escape.
Bala Lake is home to the gwyniad, a fish that is found nowhere else in the world. Like many parts of Snowdonia, Bala is a stronghold of the Welsh language and is a great place to stay if you're looking to improve your Welsh language skills.
THE DEVIL’S APPENDIX
The Devil's Appendix is the tallest singledrop waterfall in Wales and one of the tallest in the United Kingdom. It is a plunge style waterfall located on the Clogwyn y Geifr cliffs beside the Devil's Kitchen Snowdonia, Wales. Depending on flow, it can be either an ice climbing route, a single drop waterfall, or a broken waterfall

L LAMHIGYN Y D WR 'WATER LEAPER ' A 'water leaper', is a Welsh monster of ponds, swamps and lakes. It is amphibious, having the limbless body of a frog, a long lizard tail and membrane wings resembling those of a bat. It gets its nickname by the way it uses its wings to leap out the water and glide forth. It swims using its lizard tail. It is carnivorous, making it a pest among fisherman communities. It causes trouble by snapping fishing lines, eating livestock and even sometimes attacking humans.

M ERLIN THE MAGICIAN is one of the most colourful characters in the Arthurian Legend If you have read the tales of King Arthur then you have heard of Merlin who is also known as The Great Wizard. Until the Harry Potter series, Merlin was perhaps the most famous of all the legendary wizards. Wizards are men most famous of all the legendary wizards. and boys who have mysterious powers and magical abilities and many pictures of wizards show them wearing long robes and a tall, cone shaped hat
