Background English is a young language. It’s a member of the Indo-European family of languages. It grew from other languages , such as German and French. People began to write it down only about six hundred years ago. The story of the English language is a story of change. English is generally divided into 3 steps. The Old English language , or Old English, is different from Modern English. If we do not study Old English, we can’t understand it. Some of the words are the same but many are not used now.
The story of the English language begins sometime after the year 400 A. D. At this time some people came to England from North-West Europe. In Old English the endings had many other things. In Modern English, most of these endings are gone. This is the biggest difference between Old English and Modern English.
Now English is spoken by people all over the world. It is the international business language. However , English is not exactly the same in different countries. American people speak English, but it is a little different from British English and American English are a bit different in spelling , pronunciation , grammar and even in some vocabulary.
