My analytical skills are very well developed. I don’t need emotional intelligence. Those “soft skills” won’t matter much, especially if I am smart and my technical skills are superior. Reality: IQ and intelligence are important but they are threshold capabilities, meaning they are entry level requirements for executive positions. Emotional intelligence is the “sine qua non” of leadership. Without it, a person can have the best training, an incisive, analytical mind, and an endless supply of great ideas, but she/he still won’t make a great leader. The most effective leaders share one common trait: they all have a high degree of emotional intelligence. 4
