Moisture Probes • Funding from the “Caring for our Country” grant funding via the Community Partnerships Project. • 6 probes over 2 sites, complete with transmitters and rain recorders. • Installed 27 th March 2013. Aim: To increase community knowledge in relation to the adaptation of this technology in sustainable farming systems.

Site 1 – Denyer • • Sowing System: Sowing Date: Variety: Fertiliser: • Probes have been placed in two paddocks Knife points press wheel (300 mm) 6 th May 2013 GEM TT OP Canola 3. 5 kg/ha 80 kg/ha Gran-Am Pre Drilled 80 kg/ha MAP at sowing – Probe 0 in a ex-pasture (Lucerne/Clover) – Probe 1 & 2 in a Barley stubble (in cereals for 3 years prior) • Probe 1 100 kg/ha Urea 12 th July 2013 • Probe 2 200 kg/ha Urea 12 th July 2013 Aim of site – to evaluate moisture penetration in ex-pasture paddocks and the effect of varying nitrogen applications on moisture usage.
Site 2 – DB Ag • • Sowing System: Sowing Date: Variety: Fertiliser: • All probes in same paddocks – chemical fallow 2012 – Probe 1: – Probe 2: – Probe 3: Single disc & k-line rolling harrows(300 mm) 29 th April 2013 44 Y 84 Clearfield Hybrid Canola 2. 5 kg/ha 300 kg/ha Gypsum spread pre sowing 50 kg/ha MAP at sowing Applied N 105 kg 29 th May & 65 kg 13 th July 2013 No post applied N Sprayed out (10 m*10 m) 10 th July 2013 Aim of site: to simulate two year fallow to evaluate ability to retain moisture and the effects of varying nitrogen applications on moisture use.
