Applying for New York State Certification
Students completing a teacher preparation program leading to certification will now access the NYSED Office of Teaching Initiatives TEACH Online Services system: www. highered. nysed. gov/tcert/teach. htm
• Applicants for teacher certification may: • Upon graduation apply for a certificate • • Check the status of your application Apply for a duplicate certificate View/update your profile (update address, request a name change or social security update, etc. ) View your certification record View/update your professional development record Apply for fingerprint clearance View the status of a fingerprint clearance request
• Colleges/Universities may: • View a candidate’s certification record • Enter college recommendations for candidates • Obtain status updates on your college • • recommended applicants Confirm Initial or Professional certification for graduate program candidates View a report of candidate recommendations entered by your college
• Public Schools may: • View an employee/prospective employee’s certification, fingerprint, • • and employment history Enter Superintendent Statements for a Supplementary Certificate Obtain application status updates on current or potential employees Confirm the self-reported teaching experience of a prospective teacher Submit a request for fingerprint clearance for a prospective employee Report the termination of an employee View a report of fingerprint clearances requested View/update professional development hours completed by teachers they employ
• Once you create a user name and password, you will enter your personal profile. • Then you can view your NYSTCE status.
• Fingerprint clearance If you have been fingerprinted and the TEACH site does not indicate your prints have been received, you MUST file an OSPRA 104 form with the NYC Department of Education. This will request that your fingerprint clearance will be forwarded to the NYS Department of Education. The OSPRA 104 form can be downloaded from the main page of TEACH.

• Upon graduation, you will log into your account and decide which certificate to apply for. • You must select the appropriate certificate by category, title, and type. Area of Interest: Certificates are divided into major groups, or categories. You will be applying for a Classroom Teacher. • Title: The certificate title denotes the subject and grade level that you are authorized to teach. Examples include Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2), Childhood 1 -6, Students with Disabilities 1 -6, Biology (Grade 7 -12) , etc. Type: The type of certificate issued to you depends upon your educational background and experience. All undergraduate programs lead to initial certification. All graduate programs provide initial certification and pre-qualify you for professional certification once you have met employment performance standards on the job.

• You are enrolled in a New York State teacher preparation program. Therefore ensure to indicate "Pathway: Approved Teacher Preparation Program " as your pathway. • The Wagner College certification officer will submit your institutional recommendation when your degree is confirmed on your transcript.

• Submitted Online: After you have entered your payment the "Application Confirmation" screen will appear. Currently each certificate will cost $50. NOT $100 each. (If it asks for $100 you have chosen the WRONG pathway. ) It will have the date your application was received, amount of the fee paid, an the requirements that have been completed or need to be completed in order to receive the certificates you have applied for. • You may login to TEACH at any time and click the Account Information link to see the status of your application.
