Vado Ligure project – rail set-up is key to success Getting ready for tomorrow, innovation and competitive costs Fer. Net (private company controlled by Savona/Vado Port Authority in JV with local logistic operators) organize shuttle services from the port area to inland hubs, ensuring a competitive and comprehensive tariff for the full service. SERFER is the Rail Operator, selected by Port Authority through EU bid system, handling maneuvers and rail related operations using the equipment belonging to the Port Authority (6 diesel locomotives for maneuvers and 4 electric locomotives for traction). SERFER is at the moment the MTO used by Fer. Net to operate inland shuttles. Metrocargo is an innovative automated system for fast loading/unloading of trains, which will be implemented in the future off-dock rail terminal, reducing overall handling times considerably. Preliminary feasibility studies indicate that the rail facility will be able to handle 20 trains in/out on a daily basis leading to an annual capacity of 700. 000 TEU’s. Same studies indicate overall cost savings of more than 15% compared to a traditional rail handling system. APMT strives to move up to 40% of its container traffic via rail. 12
