Ansaldo STS New Satellite-based Solutions for Train Control Systems
New challenges on train control systems Ansaldo STS ERTMS (new Mo. U) • extending specifications to meet global requirements by introducing: • Network independent TLC • Satellite positioning Increase market Making investments more attractive Ensure ERTMS compatibility GNSS • GPS, GLONASS fully operative • GALILEO under development to provide Europe independence and greater robustness Exploit new technologies New markets • private freight/mining lines • Low traffic-regional lines
Innovation: key elements of Ansaldo STS technology plan Short term Medium term Long term Timeframe 1 Maximize position in core 2 Expand product offering CBTC Tramwave Train conformity check 3 Meet new needs of specific geographies Weigh in motion O&M solutions Extend business model 4 Ansaldo STS Satellite-based localization PTC Satellite-based communication Satellite & TLC
Ansaldo STS already pioneering new technological trends: Ansaldo STS Roy Hill example Roy Hill 1 project area Roy Hill 1 is a project by Hancock Prospecting to develop a new Iron Ore mine and build the necessary extraction and transportation infrastructure • Giant size, low phosphorus iron ore deposit, with 2, 4 B€ tons of resources • Posco (3 rd largest steel manufacturer) owns a 15% stake in the project The Roy Hill system is based on key innovative technologies • • TETRA IP-based TLC network Satellite-based localization with SIL 4 accuracy The satellite-based system relies on a new approach to achieve SIL 4 accuracy with the current satellite localizer (LDS) ERTMS L 2 based architecture
Ansaldo STS Australian project with an important customer: Ansaldo STS already implementing new TLC network solutions New IP-based TLC solutions Ø automated heavy haul railway Ø enhancement of operation efficiency Ø cost savings Alternative TLC Network Solutions GSM-3 G Øuse available networks Ønetworks aggregation 1 1 Radio Satellite Ø fiber optic backhauling Ø GSM backup Ø dedicated network Ø satellite backhauling Ø Radio back-up Mobile router 3 Data Communication Systems represents a strategic solution for this type of applications
Russian market - ITARUS-ATC Concept Ansaldo STS Common project between NIIAS and ASTS. Russian Equipment Use the best technologies available on the Russian and Italian sides. Satellite Navigation ERTMS Increase the performances and safety of the existing lines and stations. Use satellite technologies (GPS/GLONASS/GALILEO) to locate the train. ITARUS-ATC Use wireless technologies to supervise the train from track-side (public GSM is used on the trial site). Realize a modular system. Develop a common system suitable also for third countries.
New market needs - ERTMS evolution Ansaldo STS ERTMS-like solutions emerging New markets enabled by ERTMS consolidated premiership GNSS & IP-TLC enabling technologies Reference: UNIFE
Roadmap for GNSS adoption Ansaldo STS “The Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) can play a major role in the rail sector, both for fleet management and rail safety (signalling and train control). The EGNOS and GALILEO would fundamentally contribute to increase reliability and reduce cost of the ERTMS odometer …” (extract from the new ERTMS Mo. U) SATLOC, 3 In. Sat and GRAIL 2 GNSS adoption in railway environment 2012 2013 SATLOC 3 In. Sat GRAIL 2 2014
Ansaldo STS The 3 In. Sat Project q Development and validation of a satellite-based platform compatible with the ERTMS-ETCS ü Exploitation of new satellite TLC technologies ü Adoption of GNSS and augmentation networks for meeting SIL-4 requirements q Managed by ESA q Roadmap up to the validation and certification phase Benefits: ü Increased network capacity/efficiency ü Lower capex & operational costs Prioritary applications Local lines, low-traffic , Regional lines, new freight lines on a world -wide level
The Test Site – Olbia-Cagliari railway line Ansaldo STS 3 In. Sat features for satellite assets validation on the test site: Test Site Pilot line ØTotal length: approximately 50 km Ø Double track: to test train localization on parallel tracks Ø Satellite localization system at SIL-4 level Ø Multi-bearer TLC network Ø Augmentation network validation Ø Test Procedures validation Ø Independent assessment by a No. Bo (Italcertifer) Possible future evolutions of 3 In. Sat, including tests on ERTMS using satellite based localization, are under discussion
