Andy Walton’s Weekly World Watch December 3 - 9, 2017 “If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood. ” (Ezekiel 33: 6, New International Version) PRESS SPACE BAR TO CONTINUE To skip the introductory slides and go straight to this weeks developments click here.
What is a Weekly World Watch? The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to events spoken of in the Bible. . I hope to build up a picture of God’s hand working in the affairs of this world. God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to this earth. Jesus will then establish God’s kingdom on earth. This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch. The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW: • Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem. • Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious. • Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy’s “king of the north. ” • The UK and the US: Bible prophecy’s “king of the south. ” • Moral standards in decline and violence on the increase. • Increasing natural disasters: including earthquake, famine etc WWW presentations in Power. Point can be ordered as audio/visual CDs by clicking here. Move your mouse to place the cursor on the blue link and click.
What is in a Weekly World Watch? Each WWW looks at a few key developments that have happened during the past week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view. Every WWW event slide has the following format. To reveal each block of text just left click your mouse or press the space bar. You control when it appears. HEADLINE This is straight from a news report that caught my eye because it looked significant from a Biblical perspective, usually that of prophecy. The source of the headline and the date are included. EVENT News Photo This is the reporter’s description of the event. It is always a direct quotation from the news report and reflects the understanding of the reporter and editors. This is my comment on why the event is interesting to a Bible student. COMMENT The intention of the WWW is to offer brief Biblical perspectives without going into detail. If more detail is desired, please e-mail me: (andy@weeklyworldwatch. co. uk). Please note that these are personal thoughts and the aim is purely to stimulate Bible study. This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred BIBLE is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context. QUOTE Unless stated otherwise, all quotes are from the King James Version. (Book, chapter, and verse)

151 UN states vote to disavow Israeli ties to Jerusalem Post, December 1, 2017 EVENT The UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to disavow Israeli ties to Jerusalem as part of six anti-Israel resolutions it approved on Thursday in New York. The vote was 151 in favour and six against, with nine abstentions. The resolution came as the Trump Administration was rumoured to be actively considering relocating its embassy to Jerusalem. In New York, only six countries out of 193 UN member states fully supported Israel’s ties Jerusalem: Canada, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, the United States and Israel itself. The resolution stated that “any actions taken by Israel, the occupying Power, to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the Holy City of Jerusalem are illegal and therefore null and void and have no validity whatsoever. ” On Thursday, all the EU member states voted against Israel and in favour of the Jerusalem resolution, including countries that abstained or opposed the same text at UNESCO. COMMENT Jerusalem is world headline news this week. But just a week before Trump’s announcement Jerusalem was actually centre stage at the UN General Assembly. 151 nations voted in favour of telling Israel that it had no jurisdiction over Jerusalem and its laws there were illegal and void. This year alone the UN’s bodies have approved 18 resolutions that were biased against Israel. The UN on Thursday also approved a second resolution that condemned Israeli settlement activity and called upon it to withdraw to the pre-1967 line. The UN is anti Semitic and this is reflective of course of the anti Semitism in the world at large. The Jews are to blame is the world’s mantra. Little does the world know that Israel will soon be the centre of a worldwide government and in fact people in that kingdom will want to associate with the Jews! BIBLE QUOTE Thus saith the Lord of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you. (Zechariah 8: 23)
Trump recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital in historic move ABC News, December 6, 2017 EVENT In a momentous shift in United States policy in the Middle East, President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Wednesday and initiated the process of relocating the U. S. Embassy to the city from Tel Aviv. "My announcement today marks the beginning of a new approach to conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, " Trump said from the White House, where he was joined by Vice President Mike Pence. Trump described it as a "long overdue step to advance the peace process. "” While previous presidents have made this a major campaign promise, they failed to deliver, " he added. "Today I am delivering. ” His remarks were broad in nature — an intentional choice, according to a U. S. official who spoke to ABC News before the announcement. Trump said Wednesday that "the U. S. would support a twostate solution if agreed to by both sides. " COMMENT This is an historic move and one that might be the spark that ignites the Middle East and ultimately the entire world into flame. For the first time in 2000 years a nation other than Israel has recognised Jerusalem officially as the capital of Israel. Since 1947 when the UN voted on creating a new state in Palestine, Jerusalem was singled out as NOT being part of Israel. It was deemed to be an international city. In 1967 when Israel captured the whole of the city ALL nations on earth would not recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Until now. The delicate balance that has existed 70 years exactly has been broken. 2017 might well become as significant a year as 1897 (first Zionist conference) or 1917 (Balfour Declaration) or 1947 (UN vote to establish Israel) or 1967 (Jerusalem recaptured by Israel). And now in 2017 the status has changed again. BIBLE QUOTE For thus saith the Lord of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye. This should really read “the PUPIL of his eye”. The pupil is super sensitive. Try touching your pupil. It is actually difficult to make your self do it as it is so sensitive. For those who touch Jerusalem is like touching God’s pupil. (Zechariah 2: 8
Trump's Jerusalem decision promises upheaval CNN, December 6, 2017 EVENT President Donald Trump's fragile political standing among American voters may be about to cause dangerous reverberations in the Middle East, even provoking the Pope to express concern. His announcement Wednesday that he will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and begin to relocate the US embassy there from Tel Aviv is sparking debate over what the President personally, and the United States, will gain given that the decision marks a sharp foreign policy turn and comes with such high risks. Critics doubt that the President is acting on the basis of long-held principles or a coherent national security strategy and charge he is instead determined to further personal goals at a time when he needs to show his political base that he is rapidly ticking off his campaign. COMMENT Jerusalem is suddenly headline news around the world. Every nation seems to have something to say about Trump’s decision to name Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. This is surely the long awaited time we have looked for when Jerusalem finally becomes a burdensome stone for all people. That time might now have arrived! In fact the very date that Trump made his announcement is significant. On 29 th November 1947 the UN voted to create a state of Israel in Palestine and internationalise Jerusalem. But that date on the Hebrew calendar was the 17 th Kislev. The status of Jerusalem doesn’t change for 70 years. And then on the 6 th December 2017 Trump changes the status quo. On the Hebrew calendar this was the 18 th Kislev. Precisely 70 years to the day. These 70 years correspond to 70 years of peace in the world. But Zechariah 1 tells us that after 70 years of nations enjoying relative peace – God will bring great judgement. BIBLE QUOTE “We have been patrolling the earth, and the whole earth is at peace. ” Upon hearing this, the angel of the Lord prayed this prayer: “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, for seventy years now you have been angry with Jerusalem and the towns of Judah…these nations—scattered and humbled Judah. …Now these blacksmiths have come to terrify those nations and throw them (Zechariah 12: 11 -12+20 NLT) down and destroy them. ”
Abbas urges Pope, Putin & Macron to thwart Trump Newsweek, December 1, 2017 EVENT Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday urged the Pope and the leaders of Russia, France and Jordan to intervene against Trump’s declared intention to move the U. S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, Abbas’s spokesman said. A spokesman for the Palestinian presidency said that President Mahmud Abbas urged both Pope Francis, head of the Catholic Church, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Emanuel Macron, Frances’s President to foil Trump’s Jerusalem plan. “President Abbas spoke after his call with President Trump with the presidents of Russia and France, with the Pope and with King Abdullah of Jordan. He told them such a move was rejected and he urged them to intervene to prevent it from happening, ” Nabil Abu Rdainah told Reuters. COMMENT In the run up to the announcement about Jerusalem the Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas made some frantic phone calls to some key world leaders. His aim to persuade them to somehow stop Trump from making his speech. What is very interesting is who Abbas phoned. He phoned the Pope, Putin and Macron. These three people are actually the key figures that link directly to the dragon, the beast and the false prophet mentioned in Revelation 16. The dragon is eastern Europe which is symbolic now of Russia. Putin therefore heads up the dragon. The beast is western Europe and one of the key heads of this area is Macron the French president. In fact it was from France that the 3 froglike spirits of liberty, equality and fraternity came from. And finally there is the false prophet – the Pope heading up the false religion of Rome. These 3 bring all nations to Armageddon. BIBLE QUOTE And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs [come] out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather (Revelation 16: 13 -16) them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. …. Armageddon.
Leaders Around The World Incensed Over Trump's Jerusalem Decision Huffington Post, December 6, 2017 EVENT President Donald Trump sparked an uproar among leaders across the world after he signalled that he would be recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moving the U. S. embassy there, upending decades of American foreign policy and potentially thwarting any hope for Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. Trump called Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and the leaders of several U. S. allies on Tuesday to break the news. He is expected to formally announce the decision in a speech on Wednesday. Abbas warned Trump “of the dangerous consequences such a decision would have to the peace process and to the peace, security and stability of the region and of the world, ” Abbas’ spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina said in a statement after Trump’s call. The Palestinian leader also called for three days of protest beginning Wednesday. “Mr. Trump, Jerusalem is the red line of Muslims, ” Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan said Monday. He additionally threatened to cut Turkey’s diplomatic ties with Israel. COMMENT Zechariah 12 says Jerusalem becomes a burdensome stone for the world and then “nearby people” attack Israel but Jerusalem remains secure. This is PHASE 1 of the final conflict which could now start any day. Nearby people includes the tribes listed out in Psalm 83. It is worth saying another thing in relation to Trump’s announcement. Do we think that Trump is on God’s side with his speech? The answer is NO. Trump is not acting out of true belief but political expediency. He was also very careful in his language. He was clear that Jerusalem could still be divided in a future settlement. He also said Temple Mount should remain under Muslim control. Trump has not only managed to upset the entire world but also angered God in the process. ! BIBLE QUOTE I will make Jerusalem like an intoxicating drink that makes the nearby nations stagger when they send their armies to besiege Jerusalem and Judah. On that day I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock. All the nations will gather against it to try to move it, but they will only hurt themselves. (Zechariah 12: 2 NLT)
Jerusalem announcement won't hurt US Arab alliances The Atlantic, December 6, 2017 EVENT Most Arab countries won’t care much about Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, which might seem counterintuitive. The official announcement, though, comes at an important and peculiar time, when Arab regimes—particularly Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt—find themselves more aligned than ever with Israel on regional priorities. They all share, along with the Trump administration, a near obsession with Iran as the source of the region’s evils; a dislike, and even hatred, of the Muslim Brotherhood; and an opposition to the intent and legacy of the Arab Spring. The Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, has developed a close relationship with Trump senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner (who recently outlined the administration’s Middle East vision at my institution, Brookings). If Saudi officials, including the crown prince himself, were particularly concerned with Jerusalem’s status, they would presumably have used their privileged status as a top Trump ally and lobbied the administration to hold off on such a needlessly toxic move. COMMENT We may think that Trump’s announcement on Jerusalem may break the flourishing relationship he has with Saudi Arabia. The answer to that is that it won’t. Even though Saudi Arabia (and Egypt) wont be happy with his announcement they have bigger concerns – namely Iran. They need to keep onside with Trump if they are to deal with the Iranian menace in the region. However other nations are not so forgiving. Turkey (part of the king of the north alliance) has threatened to break diplomatic ties with the USA and said they have crossed a red line. We are surely on the brink of momentous times and we should be prepared shortly to see our Lord return…. BIBLE QUOTE And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him as one mourneth for his only son (Zechariah 12: 10)
