Alaska is a U. S states situated in the northwest extremity of the North American continent. Alaska is the largest statein the United Statesby area, the 4 th least populous and the leasr densely populated of the 50 US. Approximately half of Alaska's 731, 449 residents live within the Anchorage metropolitan area. Alaska's economy is dominated by the oil, natural gas, and fishing industries, resources which it has in abundance. Tourismis also a significant part of the economy. Alaska Hawaii
The United States purchased Alaska from Russia on March 30, 1867, for $7. 2 million ($121 million adjusted for inflation) at approximately two cents per acre ($4. 74/km²). The area went through several administrative changes before becoming organized as a territoryon May 11, 1912. It was admitted as the 49 th state of the U. S. on January 3, 1959. Alaska Hawaii
Economy The 2007 gross state product was $44. 9 billion, 45 th in the nation. Its per capita personal income for 2007 was $40, 042, ranking 15 th in the nation. According to a 2013 study by Phoenix Marketing International, Alaska had the fifth-largest number of millionaires per capita in the United States, with a ratio of 6. 75 percent. The oil and gas industry dominates the Alaskan economy, with more than 80% of the state's revenues derived from petroleum extraction. Economy Agriculture represents a very small fraction of the Alaskan economy. Agricultural production is primarily for consumption within the state and includes nursery stock, dairy products, vegetables, and livestock. Cost of living The cost of goods in Alaska has long been higher than in the contiguous 48 states. Federal government employees, particularly United States Postal Service(USPS) workers and active-duty military members, receive a Cost of Living Allowance usually set at 25% of base pay because, while the cost of living has gone down, it is still one of the highest in the country. S. states, Alaska is governed as a republic, with three branches of government: an executive branch consisting of the Governor of Alaska and the other independently elected constitutional officers; a legislative branch consisting of the Alaska House of Representatives and.
