The history company Swiss International Air Lines which is also known, as SWISS — the largest airline of Switzerland performing regular flights to the European countries, North and South America, Africa and Asia. Member of global aviation alliance of passenger traffic of Star Alliance. The main nodal airport of airline is the Airport of Zurich, the headquarters is in Basel-Myulkhayuz-Frayber Airport, Saint Louis, the earth Upper Rhine, France. The SWISS airline is subsidiary of the German air carrier Deutsche Lufthansa AG. SWISS performs regular flights from Zurich (the Airport Cloten) to Moscow (the Domodedovo airport) and St. Petersburg (Pulkovo airport) and from Geneva to Moscow (the Domodedovo airport). The airline works under the IATA LX code which has got to it from the Swiss regional air carrier Crossair. The IKAO SWR code was used earlier by Swissair airline and passed to SWISS for preservation of the rights to the international air transportation.
The SWISS airline was formed in 2002 after bankruptcy of national air carrier of Switzerland of Swissair which all assets were transferred by operating SAir. Group holding in regional airline which also was a part of this holding. The late name Crossair was changed to Swiss International Air Lines and the new airline began the operating activities on March 31, 2002. Originally SWISS was in property of investment groups (61, 3 %), the Swiss Confederation (20, 3 %), cantons and local government (12, 2 %) and other private investors (6, 2 %). In turn the airline completely possesses the Swiss Sun company and 99, 9% of property of the Crossair Europe company. In 2009 the management of airline declared plans on considerable expansion of a route network at the airport of Basel at the expense of introduction of a large number of flights of budget airlines through this airport.
