We have learned so much about the UV rays that get through the holes in the ozone that can lead to many health problems. - Explain why your team selected this topic. We felt that out of all of the topics it was the most urgent because it can cause skin cancer and many other things that affect everybody. 2

How will you quantify impact? We will track how many classrooms receive copies of our story and find out how many students are in each classroom. 5
PART 3: How did you implement your ideas? • What did your team do? 1) We did research and learned about the ozone and the problems we are having because of the hole in the ozone 2) We wrote and illustrated a book helping to teach younger children on what they can do to help and how they can stay safe. We included vocabulary word searches and bookmarks in each coloring book. 3)We wrote Christmas cards to patients in the hospital with skin cancer. 6

PART 4: Evaluate your plan. What are the results? • In what ways was your plan successful? We were able to create a coloring book to send to all of the elementary school classrooms. We also created an audio version. We also sent cards to skin cancer patients to make them smile. After presenting at the Board Meeting, we received an email from our Principal saying that the Board members were impressed! • What challenges did you face? We wanted to send out more copies, but it was too much money. We decided to post a request form on our website and an electronic copy so that teachers in other areas can request our book and print it themselves. 8

We presented information at the January 11, 2011 Board Meeting and posted information on our website. • What were the quantifiable results? 20 elementary schools and preschools in our district got copies of our coloring books. We reached more than 5, 000 students. 9

We learned the history of the ozone layer and the reasons it is important to stay safe from the sun. We learned that many countries are changing what chemicals are in items so that no CFCs are getting into the air. We wanted to share this information with others. 10
What will your team/school/teacher advisor do with their winnings? We will buy items for our classroom and take a field trip to visit cancer patients at a local hospital. We would like to donate some money to a cancer research organization. 11
