Career Pathways System Core Elements • Contextualized instruction that integrates basic reading, math, and language skills and industry/occupation knowledge. • Career development that includes career exploration, career planning within a career area, and understanding the world of work (specific elements depend upon the level of the bridge program and whether participants are already incumbent workers in the specific field). • Transition services that provide students with the information and assistance they need to successfully navigate the process of moving from adult education or remedial coursework to credit occupational programs.

Kishwaukee College I-CAPS Student Pathway Manufacturing Demonstration of appropriate soft skills? Intake and Assessment with Career Navigator Goal: GED, MSSC credentials, KC CPT Certificate? Yes Student enrolls in and completes the following classes within two semesters: MT 108 MT 104 MT 151 ASE 013 MT 215 MT 102 ASE 013 Reading Level of 9. 0+? No Refer to Traditional ABE/ASE or Bridge Classes Student completes INAM Internship course MT 283, if interested in KC CPT Certificate Student completes MSSC Certification exams after completion of relevant courses GED testing: Student earns the GED certificate 01/2014
Curriculum and Instruction • Curriculum Development – Academic skill need identification by ABE/ASE instructor using the CPT course syllabi – Formation of weekly goals and priority activities for the GED recitation class using the Statewide Bridge Curriculum for Manufacturing • Instructional Team-Building – Instructional team meeting planned to accomplish the following goals: • • • Alignment of student learning outcomes Share and review models of team teaching Identify roles and responsibilities for the 50/50 overlap of instruction Schedule lesson plan development meetings I-CAPS Team-Building – I-CAPS team meeting planned with mentor college to accomplish the following goals • • • Review of intake process Discuss resources in play Identify student support strategies Develop a student retention plan Discuss program development and exchange feedback
Partnership Development • ICAPS Career Navigator & Earn and Learn/INAM Coordinator (TAACCT III) – Brochure, outreach list, job fair, referrals, joint presentations, established relationship from AET Advisory Committee. – This relationship fosters collaboration with CTE and Adult Ed. • Engaging the community through external partnerships – Ongoing presentations to HR managers group, IL Worknet Center job club, 4 C’s Parent Group, WIA staff and case managers, Service providers network for families, brochures at churches and food pantries, list of youth service agencies to contact, community foundations, manufacturing employers. – Information, support and mentoring from other I-CAPS colleges. • Internal partnerships at Kishwaukee College – Informing AETP staff and AE faculty, CTE, Student Services staff, Financial Aid Office, Business and Development Center, GED classroom visits, I-CAPS display at GED reception at graduation.

Policy Considerations Local policy changes • Reorganized AETP under Academic Affairs Instruction better linkages between AETP and academic policies, procedures, and strategic planning; • Iw. NC changed to affiliate w. NC when IDES left decreased by half the number of adults seeking job training and seeking services; • CTE adjunct load limits from ACA and SURS retirement-requires hiring more qualified adjuncts to cover CTE manufacturing courses; • New HR hiring processes- delayed A. E. Instructor hire.
