Names of the Colors The Hebrew word , צבע color, is a masculine noun, as shown in the table to the right. The Hebrew names of the colors are shown in the tables below. Note that all but three have alternate spellings – the more common spelling appears first. The Colors as Adjectives The colors generally serve as adjectives. Directions - כוונים Asking for and giving directions, and specifying directions, are common types of communications in every language. In Modern Hebrew, as in other languages, the various directions and related terminology are named entities, such as “right”, “north”, “up”, etc. , and these are usually complemented by prepositions and definite articles, or somewhat modified, when used in specific instructions, such as “to the right”, “to the north (or northward)”, “upward”, etc. Moreover, these directional entities also serve as adjectives when one gives directions, such as “go in a northwardly direction”, etc. Two kinds of directional vocabulary are introduced here: • Common: right, left, forward, backward, up, and down • Compass directions: the main four and the intermediate four Some relevant terminology אנגלית עברית תעתיק a side TSAD sides tsda.
