Outreach: Research Experience for Teachers (RET) Research Experience for SF Bay Area Master Teachers Program Overview: • 10 week research experience • Research guided by faculty mentors and graduate students • Classroom and Lab Activities • Professional Development Activities • Partnering with SUPERB-CPS • Development of course materials, electronic portfolios, and research activities • Stipend with Travel Allowance • Room and board provided at International House Cohort: 3 to 4 master teachers per year Program Evaluation and Assessment • Evaluation Rubrics • Follow-up surveys • Poster Sessions • Tracking course development and adoption • Timeline: Years 2 -5 Education, K. Looking Forward l Curriculum Development will leverage existing courses with new and revised courses offering l Mentoring Post-Docs provide tools for success in both academic and industrial settings. l Curriculum Development at SJSU will leverage and expand current programs as well as create new undergraduate research opportunities at SJSU. l SJSU Capacity Building Program will draw in California State University System and broaden participation. l REU and RET programs will attract and retain students in STEM, create research opportunities for students and begin to file the STEM pipeline at the high school level. l Increasing participation of women will support NSF broadening participation initiatives and US workforce development in STEM fields.
