Vision for 511 NY New York State’s 511 Travel Information System will provide useful, high quality, comprehensive, readily available and accessible travel information in a timely manner to its customers. v Customers include the traveling public, the commercial sector, and transportation system operators. v The Goal is to increase travel and transportation satisfaction through: § Increased mobility and reliability § Enhanced safety and security § Environmental sustainability § Economic competitiveness
Objectives • Seek out and use the best information available v Unique regional databases in existence nationally v v NITTEC Regional Architecture TRANSCOM Regional Architecture NYSDOT Transportation Management Centers (TMCs) Work to ensure the integration of all travel modes • 511 system will provide consistent and up to date regionbased information • 511 will be “user friendly” and “seamless” v Coordination and harmonization of telephone, web offerings, and e-notifications • Regional interoperability v FHWA model deployment
National Deployment Status • 511 is the number for getting travel info by phone v Designated by the FCC in 2000 for use by State DOTs v 35 States with partial or complete statewide coverage § 133+ million calls sinception • Canada deploying 511 service v Quebec, Nova Scotia, Yukon Territory, Ontario (coming soon) • In NY, 511 will be the “brand” for travel information v System vs. service deployment
511 NY Deployment Status • Phone system and web portal complete • E-notification services v Trans. Alert, MTA, Port Authority and NJ 511 v. 1. 0 available now available v 2008 ITS World Congress in NYC (Long Island, NYC and Hudson Valley calling regions) v Rest of the state online in 2009 v Testing CARS and WTA data fusion
