The Perils of Passivity The Cast n King David – Shepherd, Psalmist, Warrior (beloved by God & all Israel) n Amnon – Oldest son of King David & Ahinoam (Heir to the Throne) n Tamar – Daughter of King David & Maachah (Amnon’s half-sister) n Absalom – 3 rd Oldest Son of David & Maachah (Tamar’s brother & Amnon’s halfbrother) n Joab – Nephew of King David - Commander of His Army (Absalom’s cousin)
The Perils of Passivity A Tale of Lost Opportunities 1. A Lost Daughter 2 Samuel 13: 21 -23 n 21 When King David heard all this he was furious. n 22 Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad’ he hated Amnon because he had disgraced his sister Tamar. n 23 Two years later. .
The Perils of Passivity 2. A Lost Son 2 Samuel 13: 37 -39 n 37 Absalom fled and went to Talmai son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. But King David mourned for his son every day. n 38 After Absalom fled and went to Geshur, he stayed there three years. n 39 And the spirit of the king longed to go to Absalom, for he was consoled concerning Amnon's death.

Loss of Reconciliation & Respect 2 Samuel 13: 23 -24, 28 n 23 Then Joab went to Geshur and brought Absalom back to Jerusalem. n 24 But the king said, "He must go to his own house; he must not see my face. " So Absalom went to his own house and did not see the face of the king. n 28 Absalom lived two years in Jerusalem without seeing the king's face.
