A Cooperative Venture: Habitat International & The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®
Introduction The Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed the homes, communities and lives of many of our fellow citizens. Over 300000 homes were destroyed. Hundreds of thousands of people are still wanting of the most basic human need: shelter. NAR has partnered with Habitat International to help 54 families in the Gulf Region. NAR is not merely the official sponsor of the word “home”, its members are going to create shelter, by building homes for 54 families.
The Initiative: • BUILD 54 Houses for Families in the Gulf Region. • One House for Each of the States and Territories. • Build 26 houses across the country as home in a box. • Build 28 houses in the Gulf Region with Volunteers from the 13 NAR regions. • Raise the money to build the houses.
• Each house: $75, 000 including the Land. • 54 x $75, 000 = $4, 050, 000 • Initial NAR deposit: $250, 000. • NEEDED: $3, 780, 000 or $70, 000 per state.
Our immediate goal: raise $70, 000. 00 per state. We will need volunteers to help build the house in our region and in the Gulf Region, particularly during the NAR National Convention in New Orleans, November 2006.
• Raise Money from Fundraising activities. • Go beyond the repeat REALTOR® Sponsors. • Invite and obtain corporate sponsorship: True Joint Ventures. • Create and foster partnerships: Goal raise the money
• Direct requests for Sponsorship: Individual, corporate, and foundations. • Approach sphere of influence. • Articulate need and scope of project: 54 houses, 54 families, $4, 000. • Ask for more than you expect. • Have formal presentation packages that include the request. • Let contributor know that they will be able to ‘touch’ the house they fund.

Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, etc for direct contributions or joint ventures. Let creativity drive the fundraising activity.
