Some things we’ve learned § China: a big market opportunity, a big sourcing opportunity § China is not just for low-tech, high labour-content products § The Canadian Embassy and the Bureau du Québec à Beijing can be very helpful • Understanding the market, making introductions, securing government interest/approval for your project if required § Importance of knowing basic Chinese history, culture, and business practices § Importance of “personal” relationships • Chinese do business with the person first, then the company § Importance of understanding hierarchies and decision-making power § Three most important things: patience, patience 20
