• http: //www. readingrockets. org/podcasts/reading_aloud/ “If we are reading aloud always something that is more difficult than children can read themselves then when they come to that book later, or books like that, they will be able to read them—which is why even a fifth grade teacher, even a tenth grade teacher, should still be reading to children aloud. There is always something that is too intractable for kids to read on their own. ”
Mr. Powanda’s Goals and Objectives Motivating Readers: Collaboration, Challenge, Competence & Choice To give my students the academic and social skills they need to progress to sixth grade. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. To help my students make new friends and discover new interests. . .

Shoes with heels, sandals, or boots may not be worn for P. E. Please make sure your child is dressed properly, or he/she will not be allowed to participate resulting in a deduction in grade.
Library: Day 3 Mrs. Hagarman is the Librarian. Besides sharing great books, she helps students learn to access information quickly and efficiently with the latest technology.
Art: Day 1 Hi, I am Mrs. Truax and I have been teaching elementary art in the Chambersburg Area School District since 1999. Right now, my favorite hobby is making beaded jewelry. My goal is that everyone enjoys art. I enjoy working with my students, and I am sure every one of them will find at least one project this year that ignites their "inner-artist".
Music: Day 5 with Mrs. Black Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to the gaiety, and fire to everything. It is the essence of order and leads to all that is just and beautiful. ---Plato
Good communication is the key to a successful year! Here are some of the many ways I plan on communicating with you besides just calling home like E. T. !
All Students will be required to write down all of their “Read to Self” reading progress they make outside of school. Students will be responsible for reading for twenty minutes Every Day. It is “Reading For Life” and students will have “Reading For Life” to let their efforts rise above their excuses. (Included should be the Book Title, author, pages read. ) Extra minutes will count as extra credit. Care givers
You may Send a note with your child and I will get back to you. I also have a School Web page loaded with information. I also have a School E-Mail; good for short clarifications I can make on my I Pad. Gregory. powanda@casdonline. org
If you call the office, a secretary can transfer the call directly to the phone in my classroom where you may leave a voicemail and again I will get back to you ASAP. If any parent or guardian has any concerns I am leaving most Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays after school open to meet with anyone in person. You also can plan on a parent/teacher conference on neutral ground by coming to Hoss’s Steak House on any Thursday thru Sunday evenings and asking for Greg’s section. I have been working there for twenty two years as a waiter and I would love to. show you some Hosspitality!
Bus riders will be dismissed at 3: 30. Walkers and transporters will be dismissed shortly after that. Please send a note or call the office if your child will not be following their usual after school routine.
