2008 Biennial: Paper Preview of the juried exhibition. Sept. 6 – Jan. 10, 2009
This juried exhibition falls on the one-year anniversary of the opening of the Tempe Center for the Arts. It features 26 Arizona artists with works on paper, art made of paper and things inspired by paper, a tradition for first anniversaries.
The “paper” theme allowed participation from artists living throughout the state and working a variety of media. Almost all artists use paper in one way or another for sketching, drawing, printing, folding, gluing, tearing and more. The list and possibilities are endless. For many artists working on paper or with paper is at the heart of the art making process.
While paper seems timeless, the material itself is transient, delicate and momentary. Artists who utilize paper as a medium are aware of these subtle nuances.
