Role Our role remains the same, to lead on the development of the event.
Statistically • Snr Women’s P of 10 Target 5300 pts achieved by 10 women, compared to 12 last year (14 in 07 on 5200 -06 target) • The best ever 5 th ranked score of 5716 in the last 18 years. • The best ever 10 th ranked Junior score of 4711 in the last 18 years. • 14 Junior Men achieved the Power of 10 target of 6150. • Junior women Power of 10 Target achieved at 4500 (12) compared to 7 last year
Cont: … More Importantly • 74 Junior women ranked compared to 63 last year. • 107 Heptathletes ranked compared to 91 last year.
How can we achieve the same in Decathlon?

Coaching • Of the 6 Decathletes achieving Power of 10 • Of the 10 Heptathletes achieving Power of 10 they are coached by 4 coaches. they are coached by 8 coaches. 1 of which coached just one athlete in 07 Infact: the 18 women to achieve a score of 5000 were coached by 13 Coaches
Coaching • Coaches Workshop Programme – One day workshops linked to the National squads • Event Specific and 5 Rings Related talks • Opportunity to Observe Nat squad coaching and athletes • Networking / Communication Environment • Bursaries for Coaches of National Squad Athletes • Responsive to Coaching wants.
National Squads • Develop the National Squads Further – Specialist coaches to deliver on technique – Delivery specific to athlete needs – Delivery specific to Coaches needs • Self Evaluation – Athlete, Coach and Athlete/Coach Partnership – Coaching Action plan – A requirement to “buy in”.
Combined Events Challenge • A Senior & U 20 Combined Events Competition every month between May – September • 120 Participants • Combined Events Athlete First • Coaches rewarded for their part in the athletes performance with a bursary prize. • Successfully re-introduced the Home Countries International Fixture into the calendar.
Competition Changes • Changes to Events – Hexathlon for U 15 Girls (add Javelin) – Octathlon for U 15 Boys (with Pole Vault) – Indoors Hexathlon for U 15 boys • Age Group Changes – U 20, U 18, U 16 Women – Heptathlon – U 14 Girls - Hexathlon – U 20, U 18 Men – Decathlon – U 16 Boys – Octathlon or 9 events ? ? (no 400 m) – U 14 Boys – Octathlon (no Pole Vault & 1000 m)
