Customized Courses • Whether short or long, we provide customized courses for area businesses, industry, and government in management training, emergency services, medical training, computers, Spanish, and technical subjects. • They are designed to meet specific business and industry training needs; • And support the economic development for our area

Occupational Extension Purpose Statement Continuing Education provides workforce development training to support the needs of area business, industry, and government to promote economic development and quality of life within our service area.
Occupational Extension Planning Unit 2003 -04 Nine Objectives
Occupational Extension Planning Unit Objective One Add a fifth Firefighter Seminar to the four currently offered each year. Partner with co-sponsor to offer by Fall Semester 2003. (Hampstead Campus) CG 1, 6 Why The Need? To meet increased emergency service certification training needs resulting from national security alert status. To ensure that Continuing Education remains the preferred and most economical training provider.
Occupational Extension Planning Unit Objective Two Plan and implement a Fire. Fighter Cadet Academy during the 2003 Summer Semester. The Academy will be a success with at least twelve students pre-registered. (Hampstead Campus) CG 1 Why The Need? To meet increased emergency service certification training needs resulting from national security alert status.
Occupational Extension Planning Unit Objective Three Conduct community analysis to determine the need for a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) course. Develop and provide the training by Fall 2003. (PH&S) CG 1 Why the Need? To provide another short-term training alternative for students seeking an entry-level adult care profession. To meet the education needs for adult care providers in our service area.
Occupational Extension Planning Unit Objective Four Increase the number of hours for the Pender County Nurse Aide I & II programs from 160 to 192 hours beginning Fall 2003. (PH&S and Burgaw Campus) CG 1, 6 Why the Need? To provide additional basic nursing skills to effectively meet area nursing care provider’s workforce development needs.
Occupational Extension Planning Unit Objective Five To develop and implement a non-credit skilled trades certificate program in Electricity and Plumbing by Fall 2003. (BIG Center) CG 1, 6 Why the Need? To increase the pool of skilled tradespersons who may not choose to pursue a curriculum program or make a commitment to a formal apprenticeship program.
Occupational Extension Planning Unit Objective Six To develop and implement a Project Management Curriculum that will meet immediate industry need for skilled and experienced project managers by September 2003. (BIG Center) CG 1, 6 Why the Need? Currently only available through senior colleges, professional schools, and professional membership organizations, CFCC project would be the first NC Community College to offer a complete project management curriculum. This would also provide the momentum for Continuing Education to expand coordinate its professional development offerings for major manufacturing and service industries.
Occupational Extension Planning Unit Objective Seven To streamline and clarify the paperwork process by developing a manual of procedures for CE contract writers, to be implemented by Fall, 2003. (All Divisions) CG 11, 13 Why the Need? To improve paperwork accuracy and help assure no audit exceptions or concerns for the coming year.
Occupational Extension Planning Unit Objective Eight Develop a set of practice audits at the end of each semester to address internal paperwork procedures beginning Summer Semester 2003; results to be reported to the Dean of Continuing Education. (All Divisions) CG 11 Why the Need? To ensure accountability measures are in place that will result in no audit concerns or exceptions in Continuing Education.
Occupational Extension Planning Unit Objective Nine To review and update the mission and purpose statements for Continuing Education and its programs for relevancy to the CFCC goals and mission. (All Divisions) CG 11 Why the Need? To address new economic and workforce development trends in our area and to assure we continue to meet them.
HRD Purpose Statement " Prepare individuals for success in the workplace. "
HRD Planning Unit Objective One Move the operation of the HRD Program from Basic Skills Division to report to the BIG Center, effective July 1, 2003. CG 1, 6, 11 Why The Need? HRD can more effectively market it’s classes and services to business and industry while also giving the BIG Center increased flexibility in the overall services it provides.
HRD Planning Unit Objective Two Change the Job. Link Center to a Job. Link Affiliate Center effective Summer Semester 2003. CG 1, 6 Why The Need? To provide services more in line with the College’s Mission. The Job. Link Affiliate status will allow Continuing Education to focus on providing primarily the training component for potential clients.
Small Business Center Purpose Statement The purpose of the Small Business Center is to promote local economic development through assistance to small business owners and prospective small business owners. The Center accomplishes this by providing courses, seminars, resource materials, and counseling.
Small Business Center Planning Unit Objective One Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy for the Small Business Center programs and services by June 30, 2004. CG 1, 6, 12 Why The Need? To strengthen economic stability of area business owners and entrepreneurs by ensuring access to information about sound business practices.
Small Business Center Planning Unit Objective Two Increase scope of training for small business clients by offering a minimum of two occupational extension courses per semester by June 30, 2004. CG 1, 6 Why The Need? To provide opportunities for in-depth business knowledge and skills that will improve the rate of success for start-up and on-going businesses.
Small Business Center Planning Unit Objective Three Increase access to SBC services for small business clients in Pender County by serving on at least one economic development committee and by distributing SBC literature in at least two public buildings in Pender County. Complete by June 30, 2004 CG 1, 6, 12 Why The Need? To encourage and support sustainable business growth and provide information resources in a rural county.
Basic Skills Purpose Statement Basic Skills provides literacy and lifeskills instruction for adults functioning at less than a high school graduate level in order to make them competitive in the workplace and in other social areas.
CED/ABE/GED/AHS/ESL Program Areas The Comprehensive Ed. Development (CED) Program provides classes for adults performing with developmental disabilities. The Adult Basic Education (ABE) Program provides classes for adults reading at grade levels 1 - 8 The General Ed. Development (GED) Program provides classes for adults reading at grade levels 9 – 12. The Adult High School (AHS) Program provides classes for adults who want to earn a high school diploma. The English As A Second Language (ESL) Program provides classes to teach English to adults whose native language in not English.
CED/ABE/GED/AHS Planning Unit Objective One Design a subject specific CED Course, by Spring 2004, with the purpose of increasing the independence and employability skills for CED students. (CED) CG 1 Why The Need? Enhances the course options for CED students to meet increasing area employment opportunities.
CED/ABE/GED/AHS Planning Unit Objective Two To actively market the CED Program to increase by 10% the number of students enrolled to help meet community need by Spring 2004. (CED) CG 1, 6, 12 Why The Need? To meet the diminishing services currently provided through area service providers for adults with developmental disabilities.
CED/ABE/GED/AHS Planning Unit Objective Three To develop and implement two on-site workforce literacy classes to target ABE and GED level students in our service area by Spring 2004. (ABE and GED) CG 1 Why The Need? To meet the need for upgrading the skill level of area employees who function at a level below what is expected to remain employed or be promoted.
CED/ABE/GED/AHS Planning Unit Objective Four To redesign the workflow in order to increase the efficiency, decrease the error rate, and increase the security in preparation for the new Datatel system. (All Basic Skills Divisions) CG 3, 11 Why the Need? Prepare for new electronic accounting system that will manage all administrative paperwork functions.
Two Objectives have been identified for the ESL Planning Unit Objective One To develop an internal manual that will familiarize teachers with Basic Skills paperwork and guidelines by Fall Semester 2004. CG 11, 13 Why The Need? To improve Basic Skills paperwork accuracy and assure no audit exceptions or concerns for the coming year.
ESL Planning Unit Objective Two To develop a common course outline for the English As a Second Language (ESL) Program to improve and begin to standardized the instructional component. CG 1, 8, 11 Why The Need? To meet the high instructor turnover rate, this will aid the ESL Program by providing a template for new instructors to follow.
Community Services/Self. Supporting Purpose Statement Continuing Education will provide selfsupporting instruction and services to meet community needs that are within the College mission but are not funded through formula budgets.
Community Services/Self. Supporting Unit Plan Objective Develop a year-end report of self-supporting activities describing community events and seminars offered. The report shall be completed in March, 2004 to the Dean of Continuing Education and distributed to the College by May, 2004. CG 11, 12 Why The Need? To inform faculty and staff of community services and selfsupporting activities. To meet accountability measures.
