Secretariat Update • Welcome new Participating Organizations – ASREN and ARCSSTEE (bringing number of African POs to 9) – OSS has submitted application – already participate in WGLCA • EO data access survey drafted in partnership with AUSWG, soon to be launched • Resource mobilization – INFRASUPP on research infrastructure policy (DICT) (closed) – Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation RFQ, due 5 -Aug-2016 – AUC Grant on food security (Afri. GAM), due 17 -Aug-2016 – GPSDD Collaborative data innovations, due 1 -Sept-2016
4. Secretariat Update • Afri. GEOSS Steering Committee, 25 – 26 Feb, South Africa – 4 thematic areas: food security and agriculture, water resource management, urban development and forest management • 10 (l) establish Coordination Teams for each – 5 (f) AUC-Afri. GEOSS Partnership TF: consideration on the value proposition for the resources Afri. GEOSS envisages to be made available through the mandates – 7(h) implement communication flow between Working Group (i. e. CT), Programme Board Members, EXCOM Members and the Cuacus – 8 (i) DICT to focus its work on developing Towards a Coordinated Data Acquisition Strategy for Africa – 13 (s) DICT to consider aspects of its action plan to be developed into proposals for funding – 11(o) establish Coordination Team for Capacity Building

D Annual Meeting, 30 Mar – 1 Apr, USA – SAR training workshops in Africa – Zambia, October 2016 and Gabon, February 2017 ESA-EC Earth Observations for food security, 11 -12 April, Italy – Consultative workshop for the development of a food security exploration platform Exploring the potential around Africa’s space strategy, London – Interest from UK institutions to work with Afri. GEOSS UNGGIM 4 th HLF, 20 – 22 April – Globe. Land 30 side event – Afri. GEOSS in the UNGGIM-Africa Action Plan 1 st Afri. GEOSS into political discussions to inform and influence policy formulation Promote and Ensure the use of EO Data and Information in decision-making Confirm the mandate of the Data & Infrastructure Coordination Team and consolidate its working plans (Develop the framework for a ‘Coordinated Data Acquisition Strategy”) Establishment of thematic coordination mechanisms within Afri. GEOSS • • Afri. GEOSS Agriculture Monitoring (Afri. GAM) Afri. GEOSS Symposium Outcomes and the recommendations of the Steering Committee • Needs to comprise of activities driven by the community rather than just those by the Secretariat • Challenges: – Articulation of available resources for 2017 – 2019
