The Great Parenthesis The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written. “The Spirit of the Lord is on me; because He has anointed me to preach good news unto the poor, He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, …” The Church-Age Gap Isaia h 61 : 1 -2 and Luke 4: 17 -19. . . and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn: The Tribulation 3 4

The Great Parenthesis “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people; Your sons and daughters will prophecy, your old men will dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on the servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days… The Church-Age Gap Joel 2: 28 31 . . . and I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood, and fire, and billows of smoke. Daniel’s 70 Weeks Its 4 sections 1. 7 weeks - 49 years • Rebuilding streets & walls 2. 62 weeks - 434 years • Messiah will be “cut off. ” 3. ½ week – 3½ years • First half of the Tribulation • Antichrist makes 7 -year treaty with Israel. 4. ½ week – 3½ years • Last half of the Tribulation • Antichrist breaks treaty • Israel persecuted 8

Daniel’s 70 Weeks Gap between 69 th & 70 th weeks 1. It is set apart from the other 69, and more attention given to the 70 th week 2. 3. Between the 69 & 70 th week are two events. Verse 24 says 6 things must happen before the end of the 70 th week. • • • 4. To finish the transgression To make an end of sins To finish reconciliation for iniquity To bring in everlasting righteousness To seal up the vision and prophecy To anoint the most holy place Matthew alludes to a gap in Daniel’s prophecy. 9
