V 1 -2, Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. • The word imitate is “mimetai” in which we get the word mimic. 7
V 3 -4, But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 8
Heb 13: 4, Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. • Marriage is holy. The word “holy” means setting aside. 9
• • Mimic the holiness of God. Keep your marriages holy. Keep your bodies holy, Keep your mouths, eyes and minds holy.
V 5 -6, For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater-has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 11
Num 25: 1 -3, 6 -15, While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate and bowed down before these gods. So Israel joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor. And the LORD's anger burned against them … 12
6 Then an Israelite man brought to his family a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his hand 13
8 and followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear through both of them--through the Israelite and into the woman's body. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped; but those who died in the plague numbered 24, 000. 14
10 The LORD said to Moses, "Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites; for he was as zealous as I am for my honor among them, so that in my zeal I did not put an end to them.
14 The name of the Israelite who was killed with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, the leader of a Simeonite family. And the name of the Midianite woman who was put to death was Cozbi daughter of Zur, a tribal chief of a Midianite family.
• Num 1: 22, (The First Census) From the descendants of Simeon: All the men twenty years old or more who were able to serve in the army were counted and. . . The number from the tribe of Simeon was 59, 300. • Num 26: 14, (The Second Census) These were the clans of Simeon; there were 22, 200 men.
• • Take His holiness seriously. Take holy living seriously. Take God’s wrath seriously. If you are immoral or greedy, repent and change your ways. • If you are disobedient, repent and change your ways.
