Isa 61: 1 -2, the anointed one would come and “preach good news to the poor, bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God. ” 7

Lk 2: 25, Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 8

• What are you waiting for? • Waiting can be good or bad. • Are you waiting for the right woman or man? • Are you waiting for a baby boy or girl? 9

• Are you waiting for more money before you give to the poor? • Are you waiting for the right time to surrender to Christ? • Are you waiting for the Second Coming of Christ? • His coming can be good and bad. 10

V 26 - 27, It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, 11

• Are you sensitive to the moving and leading of the Holy Spirit? • If not? Why not? Are you resisting the leading of the Spirit? 12

V 28 -32, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel. " 13

V 34 -35, Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too. " 14

Jas 4: 10, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. ” 15

• Isaiah, “the anointed one would preach good news to the poor, proclaim freedom for the captives and proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God. ” • The Jews were anticipating Jesus to bring freedom to Israel and vengeance on the Romans. 16

• Lk 4: 18 -21, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. " 17

• Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing. " • Jesus left out, “and the day of vengeance of our God. ” 18

• Amos 5: 18 ff, Woe to you who long for the day of the Lord! Why do you long for the day of the Lord? That day will be darkness not light … I despise your religious feasts; I can’t stand your assemblies … Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never failing streams. 19

• Heb 13: 15 -16, Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise - the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. 22

• Do you think our sacrifice of praise is pleasing to the Lord? • Do you think our ministry to the poor is pleasing to the Lord? • He will come and when he comes, will He find us pleasing in His sight? 24
