Aims for the NCKU/UW Co-studio u. To Propose a new urban regeneration vision and executive plan for Nankang Area as well as Taipei City. u. Taking Nankang bottle cap factory site, Nan. Kang Station site and 202 Aminvolvement and use to create spatial story and to add regenerate energy. u. The Overall Planning Concept 18
Planning Concept Three main concepts were proposed by NCKU team including living-oriented, productive-oriented and eco-oriented based on the Nankang Master Plan and relative plans. Based on all the basic information and site initial analysis, we consider the Nankang district as a sustainable area with three concepts to achieve the sustainability of numerous domains such as ecology, economy, society and culture. 1. Productive-oriented To deal with the surplus lands due to the traditional industry migration, the Taiwan government had proposed several urban regeneration projects, such as the Pop Music Center Project, Bottle Top Factory project and 5 other hi-tech research centers. In this plan, we will focus on the integration of the existing projects and proposing an overall vision for Nan. Kang as well as Taipei City from the global city perspective. 2. Living-oriented The redevelopment of Nankang station area will influence the life of local residents. The influences are not only good side but also bad side. Because of the nature of mixed land use in Taiwan, to keep the balance between the residential quality and local industries development is the key point to redevelopment Nankang area. 19
3. Eco-oriented The Nan. Kang area owns abundant natural resources including Nankang Mountain and Keelung river. Although the proposed parks released from 202 armory, the lack of completed green corridor is still a problem needed to resolve. On the condition of cultural location, Nankang station is an important traffic node which includes railway, MRT and HSR. Hence, within 700 meters to Keelung River, Nankang station has the potential to become a low carbon transit -oriented development. Nevertheless, the history of highly developed traditional industries causing pollution problem and resulting in the nickname of “Black District” is also an important task in this area. To sum up, the future ecological issues in this area will include the re-construction of local environmental value and the improvement of local pollution by utilizing the advantages of natural and cultural location. Furthermore, re-imagine the integration of green and blue urban area to practice the livable environment. Figure 1 The diagram of development issue 20

• Towards Greener Nankang The surrounding area of Nankang station is a historic and central spot, also possesses with characteristic culture and scenic landscape. The land use plan of the reconstruction of industries, cultural and creative industries, High Technology Software Park and several modes of public transportation should achieve sustainability and localized living style, the standard of technologies and the principles of beauty. The performance of innovation and originality is to achieve the equilibrium of living, producing and ecology. To redevelopment Nankang station area, the planning emphasize not only the environment but also the people who live in Nankang. So we should build the partnership with the residents. And the vision is to integrate the green corridor and the water resource with the former concepts to build the image of “identity”. By cooperating with well-known universities in the future, it is expected to propose further creative regeneration scheme for local regeneration pattern from 7 concepts, including 1. post-carbon city 2. green corridor 3. sustainable community 4. ecological microclimate 5. green transportation 6. industry redevelopment 7. Creative Industries. 22
