Listen to Poem A and pay attention to its rhyming lines and words. Hush, little baby, don’t say a word, Papa’s going to buy you a mockingbird. Discussion 1. What is the story that the poem tells? Tell the story in your own words. The poem tells a story about a woman who was waiting on the mountain top foe her husband. The story goes like this: A loyal wife kept standing on a mountain top waiting for her husband’s coming back. Year after year the wife became a stone which looks like a woman watching into far distance.
2. Circle one or more of the feelings below that you think the woman has. Give reasons for your answers: loneliness anger joy hate love sorrow trust
Reasons Loneliness: She was alone watching her husband on the mountain top. Love: She waited year after year despite wind and rain. Trust: She believed her husband would come back one day. Sorrow: Year after year, she waited and waited without seeing any hope of her husband’s coming back, she was very sad.
Summary After enjoying these five types of poem, can you tell me the names of these five types? And how about their features?
Forms of Features poems Nursery Strong rhythm and rhyme, a lot of rhymes repetition, easy to learn and to recite List Repeated phrases and some rhyme poems Cinquain Made up of five lines, convey a strong picture in just a few words.
