Electronics § 220 m RP station of sector 5 -6 brought up and running Electronics § 220 m RP station of sector 5 -6 brought up and running (only 1 VFAT out of 240 does not respond correctly). § With installation of T 2 and RP at 220 m significant progress and experience with the overall electronics system § Quite intense cabling activity, also on optical fibers for better protection and flexibility. Cabling in the tunnel complete, gradually moving to final configuration in the counting room § New repeater modules for electrical trigger signals (RP 220 m) tested with final cables and signal generator. Now moving to test with real VFAT signals. § Printed circuit boards production problems and detailed detector electronics status: see next slides § Electronics providing interlocks for the machine currently under test after many iterations with the machine Walter Snoeys – CERN – PH – ESE – ME –TOTEM October 2009

CMS has received ~25 boards like this, and TOTEM ~20 After diagnosis new production recovering some of the components. First recovery phase finished and two new batches delivered: § 10 5 delivered to TOTEM, 5 to CMS (with visit of Gueorgui and Sylvain to Israel) § 24 all delivered to CMS, several with problems (4 defective, other 5 with workaround). § Communication with the company not easy – questions on the components, test results at the company, etc… § Need to speed up production.
