Volgograd is a modern, beautiful city located in the south of Russia on the right coast of the river Volga. It’s the second long city in Europe. Population is over one million people.

City history is full of drama events. Twice burnt down and completely destroyed by fascists during the Second World War it revived again and again. Those historical events defined modern image of Volgograd.

The best time visit Volgograd is spring and summer. On holidays like 23 February and 9 May.

Mamayev mound — «the main height of Russia» . One of the violent fighting passed here During stalingrads. Today on Mamaevom the mound the monument-ensemble to "Heroes of Stalingradsky fight» is erected. The central figure of a composition — a sculpture «the Native land -mother calls!» .

The panorama «Defeat of fascist armies under Stalingradom» — is located on the Central City Quay. It was opened in 1982.

«The House of Warrior Glory» or as it called by people «House of Pavlova» is the brick building occupying an ascendent position over surrounding district.

Avenue of Heroes — the small pedestrian street connecting the quay and the Square of Fallen Fighters.

The square of the Fallen fighters (till February, 8 th, 1920 — the Aleksandrovsky square) one of few city monuments connected not only with the Second World War. It’s a city central square. It has received the name in honour to all defenders of the city during the Civil war.

There are 127 names of heroes of the Soviet Union who has received this title for heroism in Stalingradsky fight (1942— 1943) on the monument. .

192 Heroes of Soviet Union — natives of the Volgograd region, three of them are twice Heroes of Soviet Union, and 28 gentlemen of an award of Glory of three degrees.

The Square named by F. E. Dzerzhinsky — the centre of the Traktorozavodsky disctrict of the city. In 1926 the High council of a national economy of the USSR accepted the decision about building of Stalingrad tractor factory, the first one in the country.

After death of F. E. Dzerzhinsky in 1926 workers and the public of Stalingrad petitioned before ВЦИК of the USSR for assignment to the factory his name. IN 1932 the decision about building of monument to F. E. Dzerzhinsky on the square in front of the factory was accepted.
