They signed a recording contract with Simon Cowell called Syco Records, after his appearances on the show The X Factor. In North America, they signed a contract with Columbia Records.

One Direction became world famous after the release of their debut album Up All Night at the beginning of 2012. Single «What Makes You Beautiful» topped the world charts and the album took first place in the US Billboard 200. First debut album by British group took such a high position in the U.
