North-West State Medical University, Saint-Petersburg, Russia Chronic venous insuffiency and subsequent adverse cardiovascular event P. Bondarenko, M. Ivanov, M. Yermina, E. Podsuslonnikova, A. Yadernaya, M. Khvostova, A. Mischenko, A. Novikova THE The objective of the present study was to measure the link between chronic PURPOSE venous insufficiency of the inferior vena cava system including cardiometabolic changes and adverse arterial events. Material and methods The study was based on monitoring 64 patients suffering from chronic venous insufficiency and whose varicose dilatation had been treated surgically. According to the results of physical examinations and venous duplex scans of lower extremities venous thrombosis was found among 18 patients (which was the main group), while 46 patients did not have this disease. Statistical analysis: The link between chronic venous insufficiency and atherosclerosis risk factors, sings of asymptomatic atherosclerosis, and adverse arterial events diseases has been analyzed. The program STATISTICA 10 was used for statistical analysis of the results. The results were put on an arithmetic mean value scale with ± standard deviation. The difference in categorical variables was analyzed by the Pearson chi-squared test and Fisher’s criterion. The differences The Results were considered to be statistically significant at p<0, 05. Figure Patients with hypertension have an increased risk of venous thrombosis (p<0. 05) (Fig. 3). The clinical manifestation of chronic venous insufficiency (19 -27 points according to VCSS) was 4 times more likely in patients with insulin-independent diabetes (Fig. 1). Serious changes of the venous outflow were also related to the presence of such risk factors as visceral obesity. During the study of symptoms of atherosclerosis it has been found that in case of clinical manifestation of venous insufficiency there is an increasing incidence of atherosclerotic plaque in carotid arteries and also there is a tendency towards Figure 2 increasing the number of arterial thrombosis events (myocardial infarction). CONCLUSIO NS 1 Figure 3 Chronic venous insufficiency is expressed more distinctly in patients with metabolic syndrome and is accompanied both by asymptomatic and symptomatic (adverse cardiovascular events) atherosclerosis that demands revision of the direction and nature of rehabilitation procedures for the above mentioned category of patients
