Harry James Potter The majority of the books' plot covers seven years in the life of the orphan Potter, who, on his eleventh birthday, learns he is a wizard. He is already famous throughout the novel's magical community.

In the eight Harry Potter films screened from 2001 to 2011, Harry Potter has been portrayed by British actor Daniel Radcliffe. "That's what the films are about for me: a loss of innocence, going from being a young kid in awe of the world around him, to someone who is more battle-hardened by the end of it."

Ronald Bilius "Ron“ Weasley He is the best friend of Harry Potter and Hermione Granger. He is a member of the Weasley family, a pure blood family. Along with Harry and Hermione, he is a member of the Gryffindor house.

In all eight films Rupert Grint portrayed Ron Weasley. "I mean it literally has been my childhood and suddenly it all came down to really just one random scene, with us jumping through a fireplace, and then it was over. [...] But because you shoot out of sequence, it's often just 'Turn left, cross the room, okay, that's a wrap.' And you're done. [...] Yeah, it's very odd. Because suddenly it was all over, just like that. It was really emotional for all of us, realising that we're never going to be doing this again."

Hermione Jean Granger After Harry and Ron save her from a mountain troll in the girls' toilets, she becomes close friends with them and often uses her quick wit, deft recall, and encyclopaedic knowledge to help them.

Emma Watson portrayed Hermione in all eight Harry Potter films. "There are too many stupid girls in the media. Hermione's not scared to be clever. I think sometimes really smart girls dumb themselves down a bit, and that's bad. When I was nine or ten, I would get really upset when they tried to make me look geeky, but now I absolutely love it. I find it's so much pressure to be beautiful. Hermione doesn't care what she looks like. She's a complete tomboy."

Neville Longbottom He is a pure-blood Gryffindor student in Harry's year, described as round-faced and "short and plump and blond“. He is often portrayed as a bumbling, disorganised character and a rather mediocre student, though he is highly gifted at Herbology.

Neville was played by Yorkshire-born actor Matthew Lewis in the Harry Potter film series. He has appeared in all eight films.

Draco Lucius Malfoy He is a student in Harry Potter's year belonging in the Slytherin house. He is frequently accompanied by his two cronies, Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle, who act as henchmen. Draco is characterised as a cowardly bully who manipulates and hurts people to get what he wants.

Tom Felton played Draco Malfoy in all of the Harry Potter films. "I have had input into Draco. If they give me a line and I don't think it is something he would say, I suggest changing it. They do listen to you and you do feel a part of it."

Cedric Diggory In Prisoner of Azkaban, there was a Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. Harry was the Seeker for the former; Cedric was the Seeker for the latter... except it wasn't RPattz; it was an uncredited actor.

Teachers

Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore For most of the series, he is the headmaster of the wizarding school Hogwarts. As part of his backstory, it is revealed that he is the founder and leader of the Order of the Phoenix.

In the film adaptations of Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets, Dumbledore was played by Richard Harris, but after his death was replaced by Sir Michael Gambon.

Sir Peter O' Toole was considered for the role of Dumbledore after Sir Richard Harris' death and before Sir Michael Gambon was cast. Ian McKellen was in consideration for Albus Dumbledore after Richard Harris' death. Apparently wasn't too interested as it was 'too similar to Gandalf the Grey'.

Minerva McGonagall She is Deputy Headmistress, head of Gryffindor House, Transfiguration professor, and later Headmistress at Hogwarts.

Minerva McGonagall is played by Dame Maggie Smith Smith appeared in all the films of the series except for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, which does not take place in Hogwarts. Smith has described her role as "Miss Jean Brodie in a wizard's hat”

Rubeus Hagrid half-giant and half-human the gamekeeper Keeper of Keys and Grounds of Hogwarts Care of Magical Creatures teacher a member of the Order of the Phoenix.

Robbie Coltrane has portrayed Hagrid in all of the film adaptations of the Harry Potter novels. J. K. Rowling: "Robbie is just perfect for Hagrid because Hagrid is a very loveable character, quite likeable, quite comic [...] but he had to have – you really do have to sense – a certain toughness underneath [...] and I think Robbie does that perfectly."

Severus Snape He is characterised as a person of great complexity, whose coldly sarcastic and controlled exterior conceals deep emotions and anguish. He is an exceptionally skilful wizard who primarily teaches Potions at Hogwarts school.

Severus Snape is portrayed by Alan Rickman "He knew very early on that he'd been in love with Lily," said Rowling. "He needed to understand […] where this bitterness towards this boy who's the living example of her preference for another man came from."

Remus John Lupin (Moony) During his tenure, he gives Harry private lessons in casting the Patronus Charm, to aid him in fighting off the Dementors patrolling the Hogwarts grounds.

In the film series, Lupin is portrayed by David Thewlis as an adult, and by James Utechin as a teenager.

Sirius Black (Padfood) He is the last heir to the House of Black. His Animagus form takes the shape of a dog. He is the older brother of Regulus Arcturus Black and a cousin of Narcissa Malfoy, Andromeda Tonks, and Bellatrix Lestrange.

Sirius was portrayed by Gary Oldman in the film adaptations of Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, and Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

Evil

Lord Voldemort (born Tom Marvolo Riddle) Voldemort is the archenemy of Harry Potter Everybody names him "You-Know-Who", "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" or "the Dark Lord"

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Voldemort appears in his physical form for the first time, played by Ralph Fiennes. "I have no doubtchildrenwill be afraid of me now if theyweren'tbefore." In preparation, he read the novel Goblet of Fire, but jokingly conceded: "I was only interested in my scene, and I had to go through thousands and thousands of other scenes which I did.

A bunch of actors portrayed Tom Riddle, but most were in flashback sequences. In terms of the modern-day He Who Must Not Be Named, Richard Bremmer held the title in the first film. Starting in Goblet of Fire 'til the series' last moments, Ralph Fiennes portrayed the no-nosed villain.
