Key teaching goals of the assignment • To make you study something new – you will study a political or economic topic – you will concentrate on modern aspects, not on history • To develop your analytical skills – you will sort out information and choose only what is relevant – you will then build a vocabulary list utilizing interpreting aspect as well • To make you learn not vocabulary units but situations and backgrounds – you will understand the topic top-to-bottom – you will be able to discuss the topic, which makes you a more interesting person 5 Interpreting. Deadlines An absolute deadline for everybody is one before last class. For term II students it will be April, 30. For term IV students it will be June, 11. • You bring a USB stick with you PPT in . ppt format (not. pptx) to class and copy it to my laptop. • I check it before your last class when you will have a test. • For your test you bring your USB stick again and I copy all PPTs to every USB stick. • For term II students: Your summer home task will be to study all PPTs. 11 Interpreting. Miscellaneous • Always keep in mind: you bear a huge responsibility. As my experience shows, your PPT will be the only source of information for your peers. They are lazy. And you are too • A good PPT is a healthy combination of text and pictures. • If you aren’t sure, google how to make a good PPT. Those below are really bad! 13 Interpreting. Terms II & IV

The latter can be in either format. • Overview of the topic • Present key ideas, people, challenges etc. so that everybody understands what it is about 10 -12 slides • Your professional work as future interpreter / translator • Find 20 -40 most common vocabulary units and provide accurate translations 20 -40 vocabulary units
