Succeeding in an Online Course • This class will require self-motivation and discipline. Say Succeeding in an Online Course • This class will require self-motivation and discipline. Say it with me “This class will require self-motivation and discipline. ” Many students are unable to dedicate the time to be successful in the course. Ask yourself, “Can I carve out time everyday to work on this course? ”

Succeeding in an Online Course (cont. ) • This online class is not easier Succeeding in an Online Course (cont. ) • This online class is not easier than a face-to-face class. In fact, I think it is harder. You will have technology hurdles and limited contact with the professor and other students. The only advantage is that you can do most of the work whenever you want, wherever you want. You will have deadlines to meet, but there will be flexibility in when you can complete them. You will be required to do one chapter approximately every four days. You will then have a 24 hour window to complete the chapter exam. I would like the class to move forward together. This is not a self-paced course in the sense that you can’t wait until the end of the semester to complete all of the assignments. They all will have due dates within the semester.

Succeeding in an Online Course (cont. ) • You will be responsible for gaining Succeeding in an Online Course (cont. ) • You will be responsible for gaining access to the technology to complete the course. Succeeding in an Online Course (cont. ) • Please direct all class-related questions to Succeeding in an Online Course (cont. ) • Please direct all class-related questions to the discussion area (Fren 100 Café) in Blackboard so that other students may also learn. The discussion area will be the greatest tool for helping you through the course. Your classmates are an invaluable resource. I will not be online all the time, but chances are, one of your classmates will be and will be able to help you through a problem. I will be trying some new approaches to foster a sense of community. We will have virtual office hours, virtual classes and virtual small group activities. If your question is a personal matter, please contact me by e-mail at [email protected] edu
