It cavers 66. 5 square kilometres. It isone of the southern regions in Russia. Rostov-on-Don, Astrahan, Krasnodar Regions are very Close to St. R-n. Stavropol Region’s population is about 2. 794. 508 people. Our region is famous for its sanatoriums and mountain resorts. But most of all we are proud of the famous people who lived here. Everyone knows the name of one of the greatest poets in the world M. Y. Lermontov. He lived, worked and wrote in Pyatigorsk. Now his house has become a museum and many people visit it every year. There are plenty of places to visit here. For example, the state his Forical museum “The dermonfou’s house”, the famous park “Tsvetnik” and “Proval”. If you’re fond of literature, history, nature you should visit these plases. There are 21 towns in S. R. They are big and small, old and young but all of them are nice and interesting in there own way. The symbols of S. R. are coutofarams and flag.

This event was a basis for his poem Valerik. By 1839 Lermontov wrote one of his famous novels, A Hero of Our Time. Mikhail Lermontov became a great poet of Russian literature. He is also called “the poet of the Caucasus”. Lermontov was a founder of the Russian psychological novel. In July 1841 because of Lermontov’s joke Nikolai Martynov challenged him to a duel. Martynov killed Lermontov with his first shot. Mikhail Lermontov was interred at Tarkhany.

I live in the beautifull resot city of Pyatigorsk, wich is located in the Northen Caucasus. There are meny interesting places: historical monuments, parks, alleys, entertaiment complexes. As my home city is rich in peaceful forests, mountains, wich surround the city and attract quit a lot of tourists. On the one hand, today the city has modern architecture, new schools, entertaiment conters. On the other hand Pyatigorsk has a lot of historical places, such as Lermontov`s duel place, Lermontov`s Gallery, park Cvetnik, Kirov `s park, Proval, Aoloth harp, Narzans gallery and a lot of historical places and sights that apear withing a century. Peacefully coexist modern and historic styles are complement each other and give the city its unforgettable view. I love my home town very mach and recommend you to visit it.
