Chinese Language and Culture in Traditional Classrooms Continue Calligraphy: Calligraphy means ‘good’ ‘writing’. Chinese Calligraphy is an art form, and calligraphers are highly respected. There are several styles of writing: Seal, official or clerical, regular, running or semi-cursive, and cursive. Each one has its own characteristics and purpose.

Qualifications for Students Currently enrolled in credited public/private high schools US Citizen Without any Chinese learning background, or learning Chinese for less than 3 years Excellent academic record Interest in Chinese language and culture Physically capable of international travel
Qualifications for Chaperons K-12 teaching experiences, preferably Chinese teachers Rich student management experience Previous experience of living/staying in China; knowledge of basic conditions in China Love for teaching; high sense of responsibility Outstanding communication skills; ability to adapt to new environment Physically capable of international travel
Costs Participants (students and chaperons) are responsible for their own round-trip airfare Chinese visas, and international travel insurance Room/board, transportation, activities and sightseeing in China will be covered by Hanban from July 15 to 31, 2009
Application & Deadline Student applicants need to submit their applications, personal application letters, recommendation letters from schools or/and teachers to Confucius Institute before March 15th, 2009. Chaperons: please fill out the same applications, and submit the forms and their resumes to Confucius Institute before March 15th, 2009. Applicants will be notified of their status by April 15.
