Profile • • The National Agribusiness Council (NAC), established in June 2000, is focused on the objectives of its founder sponsor – the USAID funded Agro Enterprises Project (Ag. Ent), driving the development of the national agribusiness sector. As the apex representative body for the sector, NAC’s objectives encompass a wide range of services designed to make Sri Lanka’s agribusiness sector competitive in the globalize market place. NAC consists of 14 Associations and 27 Cooperate Members covering every sphere of agribusiness in the country. The council offers leadership to stronger and globally competitive private sector driven agribusiness development.

National Agribusiness Council OBJECTIVES… • To fulfill the need for a private sector apex body to coordinate and strengthen agribusiness associations. • To engage the government in policy, regulatory and institutional reform through regular policy dialogue. • To offer technical assistance and essential services to NAC Agribusiness Associations and their members to improve international competitiveness. • To encourage cluster development initiatives and strategies and achieve economies of scale, eliminate duplication of services and facilities and broaden the role of all participants in the agribusiness sector.
Cont…… • To provide agro-enterprise consulting services, business information and planning, market linkages etc. to any agribusiness enterprise in the country • To establish an organization capable of attracting outside sources for funding for development efforts to improve agribusiness growth in Sri Lanka. • To build public-private sector partnerships through seminars and workshops, exchange of information, and collaborative research. • To provide the business information center with the most modern sources of agribusiness information in the country for the benefit of all involved to develop the agribusiness sector in Sri Lanka. • To act as a collaborator to funding and donor agencies, in facilitating agribusiness development.
Expertise / Services ………. • Policy analysis and dialogue, advocacy & lobbying. • Closely work with the line ministries in agri development. • Provision of agro – enterprise consultancy services, business information, preparation of project proposals, business plans, market linkages and advice on market strategy. • Organized agri related workshops, exhibitions and programs • Encouraging Farming & Business community through rewarding programs • Attracting International Support & Interaction contributing towards Sustainable growth and the promotion of Public Private collaboration • Promote Public Private collaboration

National Event…. Cont • • • Recognizing farmers at the National Farmer Awards Ceremony is an annual event jointly organized by the National Agribusiness Council (NAC) and the Ministry of Agriculture and is held in concurrence with the Pro. Food/Pro. Pack & Ag-Biz Exhibition at the BMICH. The exhibition consist of over 300 industry related exhibitors covering areas such as foreign and local suppliers of seeds, Fertilizer, Agro Chemicals, Drip Irrigation, Machinery, Technology and Information Suppliers, Research Institutes, Marketers & Exporters, Trading Houses, Educational Institutions and producers Market opportunities of Ag-Biz Exhibition are unlimited. Ag-Biz is providing the perfect platform for Sri Lankan Agricultural Companies to promote their products among the relevant customers. This event will also provide the opportunity to develop the sector through enhancement of the standards and sharing the experiences with local and foreign players of the industry. The National Farmer Awards ceremony is aimed at recognizing the performance and contribution made by the farming communities of all 25 districts in Sri Lanka and also the formal business sector towards the development of agribusiness in Sri Lanka. Moreover, we believe that the awards ceremony would inspire and stimulate the young generation to enter into agribusiness activities ensuring a sustainable growth of the country through agriculture development.
