Abstract Translation Jun Blore 11th form Science-Technical Translation
What is an Abstract? An Abstract is a short and concise summary of the text that covers all the main information. It should only be about a paragraph long (3-5 sentences).
Steps to write an Abstract Read the original (source) text Find out what is the main idea of the text Separate main idea’s and details Evaluate and analyze your info. Write a draft Evaluate and Revise Proofread Look on pg 32 and 33 in the book for help on this! Make your final copy
Key points You must think critically when writing an abstract. You must decide what is a main idea and what is a detail. It should be short, but not too short that you don’t explain the main idea properly.
Why do we write abstracts? Many times people don’t want to know what an entire article is about. Some people just want to hear/ read the main point and ignore the details. It is easier to read. Some people are just too lazy to read a long science article.
Your assignment! Go to My Computer, Local Disk D, Translation, 11 F, Semester 1, Abstract Translation. You will find 3 articles, read them. Write an abstract for them and send them to me. If you do not finish, it will be homework.
